Photographer’s Note

This text and image belong to my Travelogue "Seven days in the Amazônia"

After concluding the boat trip, for the river Amazon, of Santarem until Óbidos I was to walk in the forests concerning the city. What it impressed me today was this image, that despite the colors, it is not glad. Here we have a good example of a gradual destruction unchained by the deforestation. Without the roots of the trees to contain the ground, strong rains dig deep ditches dragging tons of land that go to sand the stream bed of the small rivers, that are convicted the extinguishing.

Depois de concluir a viagem de barco, pelo rio Amazonas, de Santarem até Óbidos fui caminhar nas florestas acerca da cidade. O que me impressionou hoje foi essa imagem, que apesar das cores, não é alegre. Aqui temos um bom exemplo de uma destruição progressiva desencadeada pelo desmatamento. Sem as raizes das árvores para conter o solo, as fortes chuvas cavam valas profundas arrastando toneladas de terra que vão assorear o leito dos pequenos rios, que ficam condenados a extinção.

A destruição é realmente triste, mas a foto ficou muito boa. Talvez você devesse colocá-la na categoria 'ruínas'. As cores ficaram ótimas.

This works very nice as a documentary photo together with your informative but sad note and the title which is very suitable. I like the perspective with the tree against the beautiful sky and the eroded gound underneath. Well done!

Bonita composição de um tema bastante actual e que infelizmente parece nã oter fim...é preocupante...estamos a destruir todos os nossos recursos naturais preciosos.
Mais em relação à imagem adorei as cores e o céu.

POis afinal parece que a erosão não ataca só em Portugal... Voltando a foto, gosto muito desta perspectiva e do jogo de texturas que ela nos mostra. Bem visto e melhor fotografado.

Hey Antonio. Cool shot with the lonesome tree. I love the sky. It might be nice to have someone in there to bring it to life and for scale but I still think it's beautiful. Very nice one Antonio!

Olá António,
Apesar da beleza da fotografia, é uma pena continuar a constatar que o 'homem' não vai parar enquanto não destruir 'todo' o planeta. Impressionante captura deste leito com aquela árvore (a próxima victima que deu nome ao título bem escolhido) a dominar a imagem contra o belo céu azul. O ângulo de baixo é bem conseguido e acrescenta dramatismo à cena. Excelente combinação de cores. Parabéns e obrigado por partilhares!

A strong picture telling us a lot about the deforastation which is continuing there.

Ouch!... desmatamento descontrolado...

Gosto muito de sua foto, tanto pela imagem como pelo testimonio. Na semana pasada, no nordeste da Argentina houve problemas de inundacoes com desabamentos de terra, justamente pelo desmatamento.

Nice note to go with the photo. I like the various textures: the rock, the eroded soil, the grass, and finally the bark and leaves of the tree.
