Photographer’s Note

Ver-o-peso market is a touristic point in Belém, located at Guajará Bay riverside.

It is called "Ver-o-Peso" following a colonial era tradition, since the tax collector's main post was located there, which was called "Casa do Haver-o-peso" ("Have-the-Weight House", or "measure the weight house", in a free translation from archaic Portuguese). It was in the "Haver-o-peso house" that the taxes over goods brought from the Amazon forests, rivers and countryside should be paid to the Portuguese crown, but only after their weight was measured, hence the name, which later suffered a contraction.

Nowadays, the Ver-o-peso complex contains the Açaí Fair, a free open market where açaí berry merchants sell the fruit in natura for açaí juice shops, the Clock Square, with an iron-cast clock tower brought from England, the Ver-o-peso docks, where native fishes from Amazon are unloaded from boats and sold fresh, the Iron Market, a gothic prefab structure where fish is sold, the Solar da Beira space, a colonial building where art expositions often take place, and the neoclassical Meat Market, across the street, with iron-cast stairs and cubicles. There's also the free market, where craftsmanship, natural essence parfums, typical food and native fruits are sold.

It is located a few meters away from Feliz Lusitânia complex, a gathering of XVI and XVIII centuries buildings including a fortress, an old hospital transformed into a museum, and two churches: a baroque one where there is a sacred art museum, and Belém's cathedral.

All this area has been declared national patrimony by the National Historical and Architetonic Institute (IPHAN). Around ten years ago, Ver-o-peso was bidding a place into UNESCO's list of world's human patrimonies, but it wasn't included and since then the City never tried again.

In this shot you can see so many things,
architectural details,buildings,towers that try to touch the blue sky,the market with a natural daily life..I would prefer for the market to have more light but it seems very
interesting and impressive,

Excelente composição e P.O.V. Muito criativa a sequencia de barracas e das luminárias na diagonal. Linda arquitetura, a primeira construção, onde nota-se como o clima é úmido e quente pela vegetação que brota no alto e para finalizar um lembraça londrina...

boa luz e pov interessante para mostrar o mercado de maneira diferente do usual. gostomdos padrões das barracas e das torres do VOP mais ao fundo. esta feira e o mercado em si são uma maravilha para os olhos de fora. lindo trabalho, saudades de belém

Excellent capture of famous Belém mercado from an unknown angle for me. The historical buildings are very attractive and you perfectly included modern style of extension with white umbrellas. They are nice but I saw similar problem in Turkey that its difficult to work under them due to changed/difficult light conditions. Your capture is perfectly clear and sharp in natural colors, wonderful.

Wow otro maravillosos lugar de Brazil que quiero concer Belem lo asocio siempre al lugar donde nacio Cristo pero tambien a un lugar muy colonial y hermoso con calorcito Latino y con mucho por describrir.
Me gusta esta foto y las tejas de la iglesia en forma de escamas parece ser muy del estilo frances.
si estuviese en este lugar e gustaria poder probar las frutas y loq ue venden ahi seria muy inetresanmte para la vista com para le paladar

É preciso uma grande quantidade de elementos em uma composição. O ponto de vista lateral, inclui muitos detalhes sobre a perspectiva.

Do mesmo modo, o enquadramento é perfeito, a nitidez dos elementos é bem estabelecida e as cores correspondem à intensidade luminosa.

Interessante descrição a respeito da casa onde antigamente se fazia a fiscalização mercadorias. Nesse tempo de facto os portugueses dominavam. Mas não pensando na história a casa apesar de velha tem beleza. Nota-se também no abandono porque reparo que os frisos têm imensas ervas. Espero que alguém influente possa olhar por isso. O mercado poderá ser vantajoso desde que esteja tudo tabelado.Cumprimentos. Domingos
