The Amazon system has numerous rivers. At the "meeting of the waters" an unusual natural occurance happens. Two rivers flow side by side for many miles and do not mix. The rivers differ in temperature (I actually felt this by closing my eyes and moving hand from one river to the other.) Due to temperature difference, they differ in acidity and resist mixing.
I have been told this photo looks like coffee being mixed with creamer, which is how the colors truly look in real life.
If you do go here, be brave and place your hand in the water to feel the difference of the two!
I cannot decide if the flash glare about a third down left side is distracting and should be removed or if it helps show the movement of the water. I left it in now for comments.

exellent note Adr!
yes it does look like coffe and milk. good framing and crop factor. did you say you used flash! not a good decision expecially if sun was right above, flash during the day is good for people and backlit situation but not water. all turned out good anyways

Great phenomenon. But don`t deny that you pour coffee there ;). Lovely mix of colours and goo light.

I decided to open this photo cause I could not determine what is on it looking at thumbnail.
And I have to admit that I was surprise when I see what it is.
This photo surely had a strong abstract impact. Good sharpness and nice colors produce very nice patterns and I could almost sense whirlpool that produce mixing of river and sea water.

Hi Adrienne, Well seen and well taken. Resembling an abstract picture until you know, what it is. Very interesting feature of the nature. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Michael

what a good note and what a good shot!! Very interesting phenomenon. When I visited East Thailand my guide took me to see a similar phenomenon in the Mekong River... but it was all yellow that day!

Like oil and water, uh? Superb colors and shapes here, Adrienne. Also a nice sense of motion in the waters. I can't decide whether it'd be useful to have some indication of scale, maybe it's better this way. Well done and regards, Daniel

I agree that the glare is slightly distracting, but you are also contending with the reflection of the sun. You have solid clarity for the image (and I think the framing is nice), but I think the image, depending on how much you cropped the original, would be better served and the effect of the "meeting of the waters" would have more of an impact from a wider perspective (or a "zoom out" if you will) instead of such a tight crop. I enjoyed learning about the tempature difference between the two rivers: very interesting
