Pantheon of Democracy and Freedom, design of Oscar Niemeyer.

The Nation’s Pantheon – Panteão da Pátria Tancredo Neves – in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, is a building dedicated to honoring the memory of Brazilian national heroes. It is one of 23 buildings in Brasília designed by Oscar Niemeyer that were chosen by the architect himself to be listed as National Heritage Sites by Iphan, the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute.
The Pantheon consecrates ten national heroes who represent ideals of freedom and democracy, especially Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, known as Tiradentes, the Civic Patron of the Brazilian Nation.
Inaugurated on September 7, 1986 as part of the celebrations of Brazil’s independence, the Pantheon was built and donated to the Federal District by Fundação Bradesco. It is named after President Tancredo Neves (1910-1985), who was to be the first civilian president after two decades of military dictatorship in Brazil. Tancredo Neves, who was born in Minas Gerais, died on April 21, on the same day Tiradentes was killed in 1792.

Oscar Niemeyer is considered one of the most important names in international modern architecture. You can find many of his buildings with sensual curves in Brasilia.

Formas geométricas num grande espaço arquitetônico sob um fundo de céu azul. Beleza pura, Leonor...
Quanto à democracia ... parece mesmo que estamos vivendo uma anarquia de moral e costumes.

Very well composed image with the use of the sculpture to frame the mdern architecture. It almost looks as if it is going to take a bite.:D The couple on the right walking into the scene are a good feature.

You make excellent use of the lighting conditions here. The sculpture in the shades in the foreground is contrasting very well to the sunlit buildings in the background. The diagonal lines also contributes to the attractiveness of the scene. TFS and have a nice day!

Hi Leonor
An interesting art piece for this building and must have taken quite a bit of your time to settle for this viewpoint which is most effective and meaningful. The sky is certainly very helpful with those lovely clouds.Just one thing caught my attention and that is I just couldn't help feeling that the cloud at the top seemed to slide down from the upper edge of the sculpture. However the slight distraction did not prevent me from enjoying this scene and its content.

Só pela miniatura da foto lembrei-me logo de Niemeyer.
A foto ficou muito bem composta, com esta peça em primeiro plano enquadrando o resto, as pessoas à direita, e umas belas nuvens a ajudar.

Honestamente, acho que é a primeira vez que tomo conhecimento desta obra do Niemeyer.
Parece ser um lugar impressionante pela dimensão da praça e do edifício. É uma boa foto e uma boa nota também.

This deign by Niemeyer stands back to nothing, amazing to think this is already many decades ago...

the building of tiself is a peace of art, as you mention.

Bonjour Leonor,
Brasilia fut longtemps la ville la plus moderne du monde, un paradoxe dans ce pays peut-être pour désengorger Rio.
Une photo qui montre ces formes qui furent très futuristes.
Un très joli ciel coiffe cet endroit un peu désert.

Interesantisimas estas construcciones modernas con estas atractivas formas geometricas, muy bien construida la perspectiva con esa escultura en primer plano dando gran profundidad al conjunto,precioso cielo que complementa el conjunto de forma muy atractiva.
