Since the original version, I've increased the saturation, and completely smoothed the photo over in Neat Image to get rid of all the noise and lots of the foreground detail. I think it has a better effect this way.
Please compare this to the original and let me know what you think.

The Salar de Uyuni is a HUGE (around 20,000 sq. kms I think) salt plain in Bolivia. It sits on the Altiplano, which is a big desert plain at an elevation of around 4000 meters at the top of the Andes mountains.

The local people here have used the salt from Uyuni for hundreds if not thousands of years. It rarely rains here at all, but when it does, the water sits on top of the salt. There is standing water on the salt on some parts of the plain for most of the year. When there is water on the salt, it reflects the sky and the horizon perfectly, making a stunning illusion of diamond shaped mountains, and walking on the sky...
