After spending the night in a bus in the town of Desaguadero (Bolivia-Peru frontier) at -5°C due to some landworkers on strike, our bus was able to resume trip to La Paz. While on the road, perhaps still some 40km away from La Paz, the bus stopped in a gas station. We, the travellers, were able to get out of it, use the restrooms and shoot some pictures. At that moment I didn't know the name of this mountain, but was the most spectacular sight of all the surroundings.
This is the Illimani. It's highest peak is 6402m above sea level (in accordance to a Bolivian-made map of Bolivia). The time was 0911 hours. The mountain could be between 68 and 80km away —in accordance to the same map.
In the foreground: a local cemetery and ichu, the grass growing at this high andean altitudes.
I cloned out a wire, increased overall saturation 5%, decreased cyan and blue saturation 4%, Gaussian blur to the sky, unsharp masking to the rest; levels and curves a little. 2.85° CCW rotation

Wonderful bolivian lanscape well captured here. The light contrast between the green foreground and the blue mountain is delicious. This picture really gives the dimension and the atmosphere of the place. Congrats!

Es como si la montaña flotara! Me atrae mucho esa soledad que refleja tu fotografía. Yo cortaría esas cosas extrañas de la parte inferior. Parecen tumbas..... Bello paisaje

also for the name and the note as I now know where Inti-Illimani is rooted from :)

Nice early morning capture. Having spent 1 month in La Paz, the Illimani is quite an old friend of mine ;-) It's the only snow covered mountain visible from central La Paz and is quite a landmark to navigate by.
Illimani is also the name of a fairly well known Bolivian folk group, but I tend to think the mountain was there first.. ;-))

well done here jurgen, i like the mountains along with the morning mist, very good shot, but a bit unfocussed, but still it doesnt ruin the shot.

Hi Jürgen, I would suggest to crop away the cemetery as it makes my eye jumping from top to bottom, making it not as harmonic as it could be. Otherwise very nice mountain shot. Yours, Jan

Maybe you could have add a little bit of the cementery that was in the first line... it would give the photo a more dramatic effect. If not I would cut the bottom part a little bit and leave only the green. Very good overall. I like it.

Great Shot, Jurgen. You're showing me an unknown side of the Andes. Your pictures are incredibly colorful, clean and sharp. This experience (of shooting the same subject in two different daylights) is amazing. Keep doing the excelent job! Regards from Brazil!
