Photographer's Note

This is a typical school of the very remote valleys of the Bolivian Cordillera in Norte Potosi.
It is located here
Children have to walk for hours (and some of them more than one day) to attend the courses.
Those living on the opposite riverbank even have to take the oroya presented in my previous post .

If you notice the adobe (earth+straw) desks... you will probably better understand how poor this area can be.
But, what a chance to have access to some education !

The teacher you see here is doing a kind of civil service.
In Bolivia, any newly graduated teacher has to carry out a one year stay in the province...so this guy was sent to the Chayanta valley.
It is a very hard time for him because he is completely isolated with absolutely no means to contact his family... except using the radio of Colquechaca... at a 10 hours walk from this point !
