Island without water Photo

Photographer’s Note

An Oldie today with this view from the "Isla Incahuasi".

This somewhat fish shaped "island" that is more often called "Isla Pescado" rises over the white salt immensity of the "Salar de Uyuni". It is covered with cacti that can grow up to 10m, you can see here they are between 2 and 3 times higher than the white car. From a photo point of view this island adds colors that break the otherwise pure white & blue pattern of the salar.

I was expecting an Austrian scene from you today but this is just as interesting a scene for enjoying with my morning tea :-) The people and the cars are essential here for indicating the scale and it's good that you have kept them unobtrusive. The light looks very harsh and the colours a bit washed out though I supposed this adds to the dramatic feel of the place.

I like this overall view, And the colors is a nice bluish tint which ages this shot a bit, sort of like a sepia but cold. Id love to see a closer perspective of the cacti too, do you have one?

Vraiment un paysage étrange, effectivement comme une Ile dans une mer de sel.
Les cacti sont aussi impressionnants en hauteur et en nombre.

What a place!! I must go there, it is too impressive! What a strong strange landscape.
And strange colors, no gree, cacti are also pink, I suppose it is your choice.

etrange atmosphère qui se dégage de cette compo, la teinte est certainement du a la très forte reflexion du sel ??
La présence des personnages et de la voiture nous donnent une bonne idée de la hauteur des cactus.

I know this great place. I visited it four years ago. Considering the age of the photo is nice and taken from a very good pov. The white patterns on the salted lake are really great.

What an amazing sight this must have been. It's only when we see the people and cars we can appreciate just how huge these cacti are. Although I know the foreground is salt it does look like snow and this makes the sight all the more incredible.

Strange but interesting view, Jean Yves, I was wondering what was this white substance before I read your note. I thought it was ice, but then those cacti... Anyway, esthetically, the blue/white combination of colours pleasantly frames this "island".

Je découvre ton oldie. Ce qui me frappe c'est les changements aux abords de l'"ile". Ol u a maintenant un parking presque structuré sur le salar, un panneau indicateur et un nouvea&u batiment pour que les gardiens ppuisse y loger décemment. La montée des 4x4 sur la "terre ferme" est interdite.
Ta photo permet un aperçu général. Je trouve une dominante magenta prononcée. J'ai essayé d'y remédier par un WS.

C'est, Jean-Yves, une image très insolite que tu nous montres avec ces cactus comme des cierges qui montent la garde sur cette île du bout du monde. Le sel ajoute encore à l'étrangeté du cliché. Bien réalisé !

Hi Jean-Yves. That sure is a strange landscape. It's neat with just 3 basic colors that contrast well against each other. I always love a deep blue sky like that. Nice oldie JY!

Salut Jean-Yves,
Voici une image qui réveille quelques vieux souvenirs pour moi! La seule différence est le nombre de véhicules et la "buvette" qui n'existait pas lors de mes passages sur cette île. Les couleurs de ta photo sont un peu bizarres et j'avoue que je préfère la version remaniée par JP. Tiens, je vais replonger dans mes photos du Salar pour voir si je trouve quelque chose à poster! ;o)

Bonjour Jean Yves (ups, sorry for mistake, previously, your name with the other Jean...),
This landscape absolutely fascinate me and I want so much to go there, in spite of the hard weather conditions. This also remember me the superb travelogue of Jean Pierre (that I followed with much interest), but I see that you have an impressive one, as well. I guess that his ws imroved the image, but somehow I like the harsh atmosphere given by this darker one (the sky is blue, which surprises me). The image of Briggite is also a funny addition.

voila bien l'endroit que je reve de visiter, tes photos ou celles de JP sont merveilleuses.
ici les teintes magenta ne me derange pas cela ressemble un peu a du kodakchrome
