Laphi !

A fun title today that tries to match the famous TE Lingo "Papagolfade" with the limited letter set of the Aymara language, thus expressing the fact todays Papagolfade originates from the Bolivian altiplano, a place mostly populated by the Aymaras.

This tiny church surrounded by its cemetery can be found in the outskirts of San Juan, a small village on the road from Uyuni to Chiguana on the Chilean border. Uyuni is well known among TE members who have visited the southern altiplano and enjoyed its famous Pyongyang style monuments, vibrant nightlife and world class gastronomy (wasn't this dried llama meat a real treat ?). After passing san Juan you have the choice of continuing straight ahead to Chile or turn south to go up to the famous lagunas.

Being a great lover of Sergio Leone movies, I particularly enjoy such churches.

Hello Jean,
I'd like to go on this region of south america and the photos like this are very useful for me :)))
Great framing and composition! well done,
greetings
Gregory

bonjour jean-yves,
this is an interesting image, so different a graveyard from what we find in europe; i love this vastness behind the chappel, and the graveyard and the building being the only signs of men's presence;
very interesting;
have a nice sunday,
j.

Hi Jean Yves
There must be a tressure hidden under a worn out tumbstone. The association with old western movies is unavoidable.
A beautiful church in beautiful surroundings. Very well composed and the light is also very good, though the main subject is in the shadow..
Thanks and regards, Gerrit

Hello Jean Yves,
I thought this is seen only in the movies..:)) But I see the real one here. An interesting church to me especially with it's cemetery. How far is this to a main settlement?
Good job as always...
Regards
Bulent

Hello Antoine, pardon Jean Yves ;o)
Joli cadrage, l'église bien placée.
Le soleil parait écrasant.

Hi Jean,

this shot remind me old western movies of John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. It is a nice shot.

congratulations,
Hakan

Bonjour Jean Yves

Salut Jean-Yves
Superb composition, the little church looks as though its had an interesting existence, and the spartan looking graveyard is a bit sad, but some of the graves appear well tended with their flower garlands. The landscape beyond is stunning.
Good work
Peter

Salut Jean-Yves,

As another fan of Sergio Leone, I have to say that I really enjoy this scene too. It looks so much like one of his movies that I expect Clint Eastwood to walk out of the door at any moment. Nice framing too, with the tower of the church offset. Well done!

Hello Jean Yves,

Hi Jean-Yves. A funny title for sure. I hope Philippe gets a chance to see this. The scan turned out pretty good. I might crop some of the area on the right out. Nicely done JY.

Salut Jean Yves

I like the graphism of the Mission, with its cross & bells, against the blue sky. Bon dimanche!

Well captured, interesting place: a church, a cemetery, and a wide lonely landscape. I notice that Church and cemetery are sunk under the ground level... or there is a wall around?
Perfect picture in a strong light.
Interesting note.
Livia

Jean, for some reason this image reminds me of the duel scene of the movie 'The Good, the bad and the ugly'. TFS. Enrique

Great view. Its like this is the only human oasis in this vast space and the human presence here is shown through death. A very sombre photo.

Salut Jean-Yves

Bon soir Jean Yves!
Lovely lonely view with very good placement of the church and proportions between sky and the rest of the photo. Very well exposed and composed work. Perhaps it can be sharpened but on the other I think it is a scan.
I am sorry about the workshop on your night view - you're right, they are almost identical. The difference was more obvious in Neatimage for some reason.

The best to you!
Chris

Jean Yves,

Hello my friend, I saw this cemetery in several photos. I want to go to this area of Bolivia, as well. All the pictures that I have seen, of Potosi blow my mind.
The chapel is very rustic, and nice. I wonder whose grave is in the middle. Looks fancy compare to the others. About the image, I guess that can be improved with some sharp. Well done, Gabriel

Salut Jean-Yves
