Natural smile

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This girl was one of the students at the school I visited in the countryside, by the looks of it the oldest of the group. As I snapped a few photos casually, some of the children noticed and wanted their picture taken. However, since I wasn't able to speak Quechua and they didn't (yet) speak Spanish, a few of them (this girl included) simply planted themselves right in front of me, smiling and staring, until I indicated that I had taken a picture.
I thought that the natural smile show here (on the first and only take) was the best of the bunch. The girl's eyes also show an interesting mix of satisfaction and curiosity.
I had to do a fair amount of post-processing for this photo - various techniques to brighten the girl's face a bit, Neatimage for noise reduction, and a crop to remove part of another child's shirt in the foreground. Since the background was fairly plain, I decided not to crop out the girl on the right hand side, feeling that it gives the photo more balance (in my personal opinion). |
