Photographer’s Note

Here is a view of Volcan Licancabur (5916m) rising above the shores and water of the Laguna Verde. We're here in southern Bolivia and just behind this volcano Chile begins. Framing this one as you see I wanted to get a layered view of this unique and fascinating place.

This photo was scanned from a Kodak negative, colors result from the high elevation (4400m here on the shores of the laguna) and the pollution free thin air.

bonjour jean-yves, i remember the previous shots of yours from the place, and it is fascinating what the nature can create; i remember very similiar contrasting scenes from israel whie travelling along the dead sea; very astonishing combination of colours;

Un paysage magnifique et superbement composé. Les couleurs sont impressionnantes et bien distribuées dans l'image. Et puis, par dessus tout, c'est l'endroit qui est exceptionnel et qui semble venir d'une autre planète ! Bonne idée d'avoir alloué une large part de l'image au premier plan et à ses belles concrétions de sel.

une belle tranche de couleurs. le scan n'a pas trop altéré la qualité de l'ensemble. seule la partie haute du ciel ..
sinon, un vrai ravissement pour l'oeil.
une invitation empoisonnée à la baignade ??

J'aime bien ces différentes couches et cette bonne profondeur.
C'est pas évident de se rendre compte la grandeur de ce volcan, mais ca doit êrte assez impressionnant.

ce cadrage nous montre bien les differents plans tous aussi differents les uns des autres, avec de tres belles couleurs et un ciel tres pur.

La vue de ce volcan est magnifique ! C'est marant qu'il n'y a pas de neige a cette altitude. On ne s'aperçoit même pas que c'est une photo scannée tellement les couleurs sont belles et les details bien rendus.

joli paysage, j'aime bien ton cadrage avec ces differents plans successifs, qui nous menent au volcan. c'est vrai que l'on a du mal à en deviner la taille, mais il doit être grand ce volcan.

This landscape is nice in it's simplicity. Nicely balanced colour areas and good depth. Nice work. It's becoming difficult to find countries where you haven't been yet ;-)

Why are there different layers of soil in this photo? What is the differing composition, do you know? nature sure can create awesome and beautiful patterns and shapes.

This was scanned? The quality is great. What scanner are you using because you really lose almost no quality.

Beautiful display of colours and textures. The contrasting shape of the mountain brings it out. I like this idea of stacking the various parts on top of each other and where perspective and depth are not the main concern - something like chinese scroll paintings. Excellent decision!! Regards.

Un paysage de rêve.
Très bonne composition qui jour avec la symétrie verticale de la montagne.
J’aime aussi les grandes bandes horizontales formées par les différents éléments.
Les couleurs sont très belles.

Another nice layered compo from the high altitude, Jean-Yves. Again the vertical format is well utilized to make the most of this presentation of natural textures. I like how the vulcano is sandwiched between the turquoise water and blue polarized sky.

quelle pureté ici, on comprend pourquoi les européens viennent construire les plus grand téléscopes au Chili.
J'aime cette superposition de couches et de couleurs, une image plutôt plate, sans perspective.
J'aime bien, le lagon est en fait le milieu d'un sandwich local !

Hi JY. You sure have strong photographic elements here. The only thing I would do is sharpen everything except the sky. Since you have almost 11,000 points I assume you don't need a workshop from me to see how to do that! lol! But I do like the gradients of blue across the sky. Excellent work Jean-Yves.

C'est chez toi que je viens chercher un peu de fraîcheur par ces temps caniculaires.
Même si la photo présente un paysage désertique, il doit faire froid à cette altitude où l'on ne peut chercher l'ombre pour se réfugier ;-))

Ton cadrage est superbe pour metter en valeur ce panorama, j'aime beaucoup ces plans successifs qui terminent au loin en apothéose avec ce sommet triangulaire.Les couleurs sont bien saturées. Belle ralisation.

Hello JY - despite the thin air and bright salt, the light and colour balance is ideal, at this altitude the sky often appears black in photos, but not here

Je suis tres impressioné par cette image, mais j'ai certains doutes a propos du cadrage. A mes yeux j'estime que l'écume bouffe un peu la beauté du volcan, parceque la ligne entre le blanc et le bleu est presque au milieu. Izzet Keribar

Ce qu'il y a de bien avec ta galerie, c'est qu'on peut rester plusieurs semaine sans venir et on n'est pas perdu... de toute façon tu changes de pays chaque jour: un vrai bonheur!

Je me suis arrêtée sur cette image du Licancabur qui me rappelle la fois où j'ai renoncé à atteindre le sommet tellement c'était pénible (en fait, cette montagne n'est qu'un immense pierrier où l'on fait 3 pas en avant et 2 en arrière...)

J'aime cet angle de prise de vue avec les ces différentes couches: le sel, l'eau, la montagne et le ciel. De magnifiques couleurs!

What a great captured Jean Yves.... I was in the same place a few months ago, but I went in in winter, so I saw a lot of ice all over there :( ... I couldnt appreciate well the lagoon... anyway, it was a wonderful trip
