Photographer’s Note
On the bolivian Altiplano, at almost 5000 meters high, the air is very dry and the sun hard, yet it freezes - a mouthful of degrees during daytime, down to -22° or -25° at night. The hill on the picture is actually a volcano - one can tell by the yellowish-red and the shape of the peak. The laguna itself is a thermic lake oversaturated in salt which might explain this incredible blue-green emeraud-like color. A few steps nearby one can have a hot bath (30°) in a natural pool.
NB: this is my last contribution to TrekEarth... for a month, since I'm living for a mountainbike trip in Iceland... and hopefully will come back with great shots to share with you all. In the meantime enjoy, life's amazing, and farewell!
Check there and look for the "photos" section for more images.
Any comment welcome !
Cheers folks.

Beautiful shot Dams. Loved the two different shades of blue divided by the mountain in between. All the best for your biking trip. I look forward to your pics when you are back.

thanks for getting there and sharing the picture. I am not sure I would be brave enough to go there. I hate cold.
I like colors and sharpness of this picture. I almost can feet the thin air there.
Good luck with your trip

What at wonderful place. If you like this kind of nature, Iceland will not disppoint you! (I have recently been there for 14 days, my third tme on Iceland, I wish you all the best and a nice trip. Do not miss the Blue Lagoon)
To this pic: very well composed, amazing colour of the water and sky, that makes a beautiful contrast to the black and grey sorroundings.
Great capture!

I like your picture, you managed to catch very well the unique colours of this particular region.
About the place: the volcano is called Licancabur and marks the border between Bolivia and Chile. At the top of it some kind of religious ceremonies and sacrifices were held.

The colors and the surfaces are so pure. They seem so smooth, even the rocks and ground in the foreground. The water seems like some kind of silk cloth and the volcano also seems to be covered in some smooth cloth. And that is continued into the sky. Quite otherworldly in a way. Very impressive. Very clear and sharp. Well done.

Hi,
beautiful place...it looks a bit like Pangong Tso, a lake in the Himalayas of Northern India...The colors are a bit unsaturated for my taste..i have provided a workshop.
Hope you dont mind..

Well done.

Impressive colors. Despite the centralised composition, it seems to be so effective. regards.
