Photographer’s Note

This particular JESUS has been taken in a small church in San Lorenzo´s cemetery, located 15km from Tarija, in the south of Bolivia.

I like this "Jesus" since it had a strong and passionate RED background like the Jesus blood and in contrast with the skin.

In another hand, somebody told me that this picture has kind of kitsch: the colors, the sculpture, the bulb.. etc... what do u think ???

the amount of blood is immense...more likely kids get scared looking at "Jesus" like this...i think there is no reason to scare anybody this way...i like the appearance of the bulb...cheers, artur

Alejandro, hola! Very good shot of this Crucifix. The red is overwhelming, passionate and very graphic and I find the statue very touchingly beautiful, not "high art" but very expressive and not a kitch in my mind, because it has a guttural, strong streak to it which you don't find in the usual Catholic repertoire of present-day kitches.

In terms of the technique, I love the central positioning and the shot itself. I would sharpen the shot a bit more.

Nice DOF, but I dont like the POV (Too kitsch for my taste). I tried to make it less kitsh with my WS, I am not sure I succeeded.
