Photographer’s Note
This photo is taken in the Train Graveyard in Uyuni, southwest Bolivia.
The town of Uyuni is situated high in the Andean altiplano, at an altitude of 3,665m above sea-level. For much of the 20th century Uyuni was an important railway junction. Nowadays it is more commonly known (to tourists atleast) at the gateway for trips to the Salar de Uyuni, the largest and highest salt lake in the world.
Just outside of the town is evidence of Uyuni's railway history in the form of this enormous railway cemetery. Most of the engines date from the early 1900's to about 1950 and have just been left to fall apart on this huge wasteland. There are no fences, no guards, no entry fee. Just take a taxi 5 minutes out of town and have a wander round, the photo opportunities are endless... especially if you like trains!
Slight cropping and frame added in Photoshop, otherwise unchanged.
Regards,
Lynn

Hello Lynn,
Nice to see this.
I guess these trains will stand there forever, as it may be a huge task to have them removed. Great historical perspective.
Cheers,
Tayon
