Photographer’s Note

Carnivals are huge in Bolivia. It is one of the most important celebrtations during the year. The festivities are different from region to region.

In Oruro, at 3,800 meters above the pacific ocean, the big feast is composed of thousand of street dancers and hundreds of thousands of espectators, who party and celebrate during all day and night. UNESCO has recently declared Oruro's carnival as intangible world heritage.

This dancer is a Moreno, and they represent the African slaves brought to work at the silver mines by the spaniards during colonial times. This is the most popular dance in this region's celebrations.
