Photographer’s Note

Situated in the south of the country 2580m above sea level, Sucre was founded in 1539 by Pedro de Anzures under the name "Charcas" and is the constitutional capital of Bolivia. It is now named Sucre after the Bolivian hero "Antonio José de Sucre" who won a decisive battle against Spain in 1824 and secured independance of the South American colonies.

Sucre is known for its white character, most buildings bear an eclatant white color, which makes the place very luminous. Also the climate is much milder than on the altiplano and life more relaxed.

I'm not so sure anymore what this massive building on the main plaza is, I believe it is the "Casa de la Libertad", where the independance declaration was signed. Its frontside shows a big Bolivian coat of arms and the country motto "La Union es la Fuerza".
