Some protesting and demonstrations which erupted in Bolivia in June 2005. The poorer people were calling for the resignation of the President. La Paz was closed off by the demonstrators for a number of weeks with road blocks on all the exit routes. Flights were also hard to come by due to the lack of fuel for the planes. The people were using dinamite constantly and small explosions could be heard from all over the city. Foreigners were advised to avoid the trouble area's but sometimes the temptation to see what was happening was too much. Plus there was little else to do with all tours into the surrounding areas and the rest of the country suspended until all the barricades were lifted. It was quite surreal though because at the weekends the demonstrating practically came to a complete halt and the city takes on an almost carnival atmosphere and the inner city roads are full of traffic and bussle again. This was taken mid way through the third week of the crisis when obviously the authorities had finally had enough.
