Photographer’s Note
Today it is Sunday. A day for rest and peace, not a good day for windmill wars ;-) Actually, I like this peaceful moment, so I might find myself uploading pictures other than windmill related photos again...
So today I'll continue my travelogue of Patagonia and post a picture full of love and peace. The day after our whale adventures, we went by car from our stay in Puerto Madryn to Punta Tombo. This place hosts a very large penguin colony. Half a million (500,000!!!) magellanic penguins (latin: macronectes giganteus) come here every year to breed and feed and it's a great sight to see these sympathic and funny little fellows walk on the beach and in their living areas. When we were there, a lot of baby-penguins were present. Some of them still very small, others already a little bit bigger.
It's really big fun just to sit there and watch them. But it's not only love and peace on this location. Birds of prey and southern giant petrels (latin: macronectes giganteus) were continuously watching the area, looking for loneseome and defenseless baby-penguins. At a certain moment two petrels were even attacking adult penguins on the beach. Hundreds of penguins fled into the sea at the same time. A very remarkable sight. We could have stayed there for the whole day, but were forced to leave after a couple of hours as we had to catch our plane from Trelew airport back to Buenos Aires.

Bonjour Michael,

Hi Michael. A nice and gentle scene of the two penguins walking on the glittering icy surface - almost looks like a couple in love on a solitary stroll even though your very informative note suggests a less romantic setting. Well done.

Very cute and simple a a nice breat to the splintering sounds of the WWW.
The couple is very cute(penguins are one of my favorite animals) ) and placed so well in the photo. Truly like all the shimmery stuff on the background perfect to show case their love and our peace.

Nice minimalistic expression of love from you today, Michael!
Looks almost like b/w with some blue tones and if it wasn't for a couple of coloured stones...

Hi Michael, very nice and tender picture, the way they are positioned in the frame, with the immense empty space around them, is very nice and symbolic at the same time. You could have also named it: "Lost in love", 'cause that's the moment that you usually forget everything around you. So, them being alone in the frame is so nice. The glistening of the water is very impressive, I read your reply to Norbert, you're a patient photographer!

Hi Michael - aww so cute, wonderful composition and excellent timing, the birds really stand out from the uniform background. I think I'll upload a penguin shot myself soon, and start a little penguin war (just kidding)
