Photographer’s Note
We are on the 36th pitch of Maestri route on the south-east ridge of Cerro Torre.
Looking downwards to my mates. The relay from wich is taken the image is just over the "Maestri Compressor".
Everything is wet and iced, small blocks of ice were falling from the summit ice-mushroom.
Under our feet 1600 meters of vertical and overhanging walls till the glacier, over our heads, still the "Bridwell pitch" and two short pitches more on snow and ice to reach the top of Cerro Torre ice-mushroom.
The date: October 29th, 1987.
The weather: pretty Patagonian.

Hi Davide,
Really breathtaking picture. As usual in pictures like this I guess it would be better to crop away some of the white parts so that the egde of the rock doesn't divide the picture into two halfs. The unsharpness is kind of nice here, it makes the situation look even more extreme.

I feel sick just looking at that... ;-)
That is a compliment... an emotional reaction to a photo, not matter what, is always a good thing!

Hi Davide. A stunning picture. This angle and POV are unusual and really impressive, as the general feeling when I look at the scene. Breathtaking, I âlmost loose my balance here. A very impressive catch considering the conditions! Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

Absolutely breathtaking picture. It really shows the skill that you need to climb mountains like the Cerro Torre. Normally I would agree with Simon (mitternacht) in cropping the picture, but in this case I really like the big white part. It gives the picture an unfinite depth and makes our fear to fall down even stronger. I looked at all your pictures of the ascent with great interest. Congratulations for reaching the summit!
