When I saw this animal I thought it was a hare. Besides hare, mara and habbits are from the same Order (Rodentia) the mara are from a different family the Caviidae. Mara are closer kinship with the capybaras.
The Patagonian mara, Dolichotis patagonum, is a relatively large rodent in the mara genus (Dolichotis). It is also known as the Patagonian cavy, Patagonian hare or dillaby. This herbivorous, somewhat rabbit-like animal is found in open and semi-open habitats in Argentina, including large parts of Patagonia. It is monogamous, but often breeds in warrens that are shared by several pairs.

I remember these little guys from the Buenos Aires zoo, where they are allowed to roam freely; I too thought they were large rabbits at first glance, but clearly that's not right! This a beautiful portrait of a mara, deep in thought it seems - good DOF and nice bright colors. Thanks!

Pelo thumbnail achei algo semelhante à capivara. Bem captada, bem focada e com uma boa pose. Acho estes animais bem engraçados.
