Back to Argentina…
This is the northwest of Argentina, on the road between the cities of Salta and Cafayate.
The Andes run through all South America from south to north, but if in Patagonia they are marked by cold rainforests and lakes, here the mountains present a totally different scenario; with desert or semi-desert landscapes, very high plateaus, salt lakes, and a few fertile valleys.
Another point of interest is that here we almost over the Tropic of Capricorn line, but the arid scenery is not what possibly comes first to our minds when we think about tropical landscapes.
The weather in these regions is tough, with considerable temperature variation during the day, and can get very cold as you go higher in the mountains. Since there is very little rain, the erosion is mostly caused by the wind.
One final point is that some 50 kilometers away from this point, the city of Cafayate (which is in a very high valley), is the center of one of the wine producing regions in Argentina.
Again a triple feature, so two more views in the WS. :-)

Hello Carlos - Firstly, thank you for your good wishes. I'm happy to say that my eye is feeling so much better; I was fortunate. It sounds as if you had a really awful ordeal and you must have felt both angry and bereft at having to go through all that surgery and not know when (or if) you could pick up a camera again. Sight is so precious isn't it?
This arid landscape really appeals to me, the Tropic of Capricorn runs through Namibia too so I am familiar with a similar arid and harsh landscape. The weathering on these rocky outcrops is so beautiful and you have captured the inclined layers of sediment very clearly. A fine, well-managed shot. TFS and warm regards Rosemary

Excelente luz y punto de vista para mostrar esta formación que, como dices, no parece tropical, a pesar de estar cerca de esa línea.

I had no idea there is such a landscape in Argentina. looks more like a photo from Utah or Arizona. Amazing rock formations and so masterfully presented.
Cafayate sounds so similar to Calafate, but the view is totally different :).
