La Boca neighbourhood in Buenos Aires is famous for its photogenic colourful houses especially around the Caminito street. When I took picture of this particular spot I didn’t know that it is probably one of the most photographed corners of Caminito. I have already showed you a picture of a couple passionately dancing Tango in one of the La Boca restaurants. This photo here presents a square where young people meet to play basketball, to skateboard etc. The graffiti exhibits some changes over time however the main text stays the same. This was originally a very poor area where the poor workers working in the port have lived. The houses were very simple and supposedly they were allowed to take home some leftovers of the paints which were used to paint the ships. The leftovers were really minor so that is why their houses were patchworks of colors. At certain point the workers went for a strike and for a moment declared La Boca an independent Republic, which obviously did not last very long. Nowadays Caminito in La Boca attracts crowds of tourists and some artists which try to sell there their works. Areas of La Boca a bit further behind the Caminito do not have a good reputation and tourists are discouraged from going there.
I have used the pseudo-HDR here to emphasize the texture of the wall.

Hi Mariusz, the choice of point of view to create this diagonal perspective makes the difference, the boy inside the pic give us the exact size of this big wall, great details on the murales and bright colors despite the shadow.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Excellent point of view here creates a very intriguing shot. Its funny that the kid with the skateboard has almost become part of the scene in that he could easily be painted on to the wall along with the writing, but for the fact that you managed to get a partial effect of movement in the whole shot.
Great POV and colours create a really pleasing shot, thanks for sharing.
All the best

nice the snapshot with the young skater to enjoy his board in the pavements of 'the Boca' neighbourhood.
I like the excellent presentation, the light and the colour management as the clarity of the scene.

urocze zdjecie i takie, ktore ma to "cos" w sobie. Podoba mi sie grafitti jako tlo, dodaje duzo koloru i ozywia calosc, a dodatkowo swietnie podkresla charakter zdjecia. Dobre umiejscowienie chlopca.

bardzo ladna scenka chlopca ktory ma zamiar wskoczyc na te deske. Grafitti dodaja uroku tej scenie. Podoba mi sie skomponowanie tego zdjecia. Ladna praca.

Your note seems to be written by an expert, you know more than me about La Boca, I only know that is very dangerous to go inside the suburb, what we do to have lunch in an excellent Italian restaurant
Excellent way to capture the boy with the BG of..La Boca, what best?
If you search Argentina ours are the last post

A fascinating note and a very interesting photograph with excellent textures in that wall painted with graffiti. I'm interested too in your "pseudo HDR" - what exactly do you mean by that? It just sounds quite intriguing!
Of course, the inclusion of the boy with his skateboard is very important to the whole composition here and he also adds "life" to what might otherwise be a rather "static" picture. Good soft lighting, lovely vibrant colours and excellent details and sharpness.
P,S. I've just noticed that this picture is one from your "Patagonia 2010" travelogue, so I'm going to have to look at some of the other pictures there!

Fajnie pokazane zycie codzienne chlopca.
Graffiti w tle dodaje smaku.
Dobry kadr i kolory.

This is a very good street-shot, entirely to my taste, combining youthful action and fine colours in a good composition. The graffiti means a lot for the atmosphere and the diagonal of yellow wall and bold black letters makes the compositin very eye-catching. The boy is very well placed.

A magnificent and original composition, showing a bit the atmosphere of this famous district of Buenos Aires, the boy with his skateboard is a nice addition, the graffiti gives a powerful graphics to the composition.

a spontaneous and vital capture here.
You have caught skillfully this young skateboarder in full action, with the graffiti behind him, which provides a good graphical and chromatic effect in the composition.
A sharp and colorful image.
It's a beautiful work.

Superb capture of this strong wall artwork in great details along with the burst of vivid colors adding that all important impact. I simply love the contrasty colors they create to the environment and the boy is in a good position perfectly appropriate to engage the viewers, Great capture. TFS

Witaj dear Mariusz
We do not often see this type of genre in your gallery, but it is extremely well-done. I love the strong colours, the excellent definition and the human element. The little boy is positioned well to the left and the diagonal lines coming out of the left-hand corner work well on the perspective. Nice work.

This is tremendous. Lots of action and interest in a very well framed image. The colours of the wall and the writing make a wonderful backdrop for this boy and his skateboard. Excellent street photography and a great note.
Best wishes, Ann

Interesting graffiti which dominates the frame! Your PP work on the wall makes it almost 3D. We see 3 sports equipments in this picture....a goalpost, a basketball net & a skateboard. Looks like a tough neighbourhood! Nice shot!
macjake (61504) 2013-03-27 15:32
another cool shot from your gallery :)
I'm excited about this because soon we are leaving for Chile and Peru :)
Argentina will probably be sometime in the future.
you always provide us with such useful information in your notes, same as this one.
love the 1-touch hdr effect too.
colorful and cultural all into one.

I have one photo from this square as well that I posted awhile back with the boys playing soccor in the rain. I love the strong graphic on the wall as the background. A little slice of life in the cornor of La Bocca. I love this area of BA.

Ahh, reminds me of my days there. La boca used to be my favorite "town" in S.A, but not till I've visited Guatapé in Medellin. It was just as charming as this place but the one overthere was more authentic (in my terms, haha) and very quaint. You pseudo touch on the wall is quite effective, giving more life to the texture of the wall. Good work!
TFS, best regards,

nice street picture, very nice vivid colors and good details.

Really a very colorful shot from La Boca neighborhood in Buenos Aires. The boy unaware of being captured in your camera seems to be immersed in skateboarding. His fisted right hand indicates his mood at that time.Very pleasant colors and an interesting note.Very well done.TFS.

I am liking this kid already, he has a lot of confidence!
and this looks more like the kind of 'landscape' that I am drawn to than what we are used to seeing in your gallery ;)
Lots of great details, street art and an interesting character, plus an appealing palette of colors -- nice!!
P.s. very interesting note!

Though the lighty condition were not the best, managed a nice daily-life scene in town, Mariusz.
The boy is doing some scate-board practice, caught a nice pose of him. maybe a wider scope would show more of the walls covered with graffiti. My humble opinion, merely.
