Photographer's Note

The belltower of the 17th century church of San Fransisco de Paula, in Uquía - deep in the Quebrada de Humahuaca: a UNESCO World Heritage area in the north-west of Argentina. I did use a polarising filter to deal with the midday conditions, but the background hill really is that colour (see 'Seven' earlier in my portfolio for another example from the Quebrada).

As for the title: the church contains nine 17th century paintings of Angeles Arcebuseros - which were brought from Cusco during the Spanish colonial era, when this part of Argentina was an important part of the silver route from Alta Peru to Asuncion.

The Angeles are dressed in Spanish colonial costumes and most of them are carrying guns or contemporary weaponry.
