Photographer’s Note

Daily life scene in Humahuaca town, at the northern tip of Quebrada de Humahuaca. This is in the far northwestern corner of the country close to Chile and Bolivia and people I found there reminded me more the people I met in Perú. I suppose they belong more to the austere, parched altiplano of the andean region and Quichoa (Quechua) culture than to the rest of Argentina.

HUMAHUACA is 125km north of Jujuy and it spills across the Río Grande from its picturesque centre on the west bank. Its enticing cobbled streets, lined with colonial-style or rustic adobe houses, lend themselves to gentle ambling – necessarily leisurely at this altitude, a touch below 3000m.
