End of the world" train
It travels along the same rails as in times of a prison, “End of the world Prison”, when it transported the prisoners to their tasks in the cold forest, mainly to cut logs to guarantee the necessary firewood used for cooking and heating at the prison.
In 1994 after 42 years of silent retirement (the prison was closed) the train resumed its old circuit
The steam locomotive consume 500 liters of water and the most important thing is to keep an eye on the boiler, so it does not run out of water", said one of the drivers
The photo was taken at a stop when locomotives are changed, the man, a driver, was checking one before beginning the trip back to the main station

as a railwaay fan I like your picture here with the locomotive in full action very much. Excellent contribution to TE.TFS.
With regards from Luxembourg

What an intriguing sight, Maria.
I live in a country that has not even one steam-locomotiv - so for me this is marvelous to see one puffing white and ready to roll on.
Stunning red, with the Argentina flag in front and a beautiful grove in the surrounding area, autumn colors in fabulous orange.

This an excellent picture with the bright little red train billowing out steam and all set against a fabulous autumnal woodland. The man patiently standing there balances the composition very well.
Very good clarity and thanks for the interesting note.
Kind Regards, Ann

Quite an interesting view from far far away. Little red engine on a narrow gauge shows it's strength with those puffs of steam. Good off centre framing and nice autumn colours on the background.

For a train with such a name and such a history, its a very bright and eye catching vehicle! It looks almost like a character from Thomas the Tank Engine! Very nice composition here too, being off centre, it lets us see the forest for a sense of place, and the steam blasting out is perfect timing.

I enjoy my life, you too?
Your photo has great class, fascinating to the red locomotive, and your information is very good!

Mancano solo i prigionieri....

Excellent photo with nice colourful locomotive close up. I like your autumn mood in your photos, during the time when whole northern hemisphere is celebrating spring return.
Very well done.
p.s. My grandfather was driver of such small steam locomotive, also carrying wood from the forest to paper making factory.

I like this picture very much! The bright red train is extremely eye catching especially in these more muted colored settings. The steam around it adds to the whole atmosphere. The man checking the train has been well placed in the framing and makes the image more down to earth adding important human element. Well composed and with very pretty colors.
Thanks for sharing and all the best

Hola Maria querida,
both your photo and note are very interesting, information and sight are all new to me. I like very much the vivid red tones and the perspective, the engine is extremely attractive but you've still allowed the surroundings to be comprehensible and atmospheric. The man next to the engine adds interest, reference and balance. I like very much the rendering of all the details and the way the colours express the atmosphere of the season. Felicitaciones y gracias!

Fine view up close front on of this classical switcher steam locomotive, a glimpse of the narrow gauge rails, and accented by the bright red loco and the golden leaf background.
Thanks for sharing,

Hola Miss Maria,
What is this, I'm away for almost a week and you have only one new picture?? :)
Now this is going "old school," I love it! Not something we see very often, here or anywhere for that matter. This would have held plenty of appeal on its own, but it was a great idea to include the driver as part of this shot, aiding in both scale and context.
A beautiful Autumn setting, apt for this big red train that dominates the frame, but is not overpowering. You've done a fine job in composition, light balance and color...and the capture of steam adds that little extra effect and historical significance to the imagery. "End of the world,"...I think I'll keep flying or driving instead! ;) Have a wonderful day ahead mi amiga. All the best.
Cheers from the desert furnace,

Nice shot of this loco, it's so good to see this olde traction steam engine from days gone by. A cracking color, one which really lends itself to a feeling timeless charm and nostalgia. Indeed a fun shot to warm the day as the steam adds the visual impact. The image is pin sharp and the stunning red gives the old boy a new look! A wonderful shot and strikingly stands out, Congrats.

the locomotive has a very dramatic presence in your composition. The vivid red is reflected in the flowers in the background and the blue and white flag provides very good contrast. Excellent sharpness and details.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful picture.
Have a nice evening.

The steam emitted from the sides of the engine really bring the shot to life! I can almost hear it hissing!
A very well composed shot with good guides and all elements well placed.
Have a good w/e,

Ciao e buona giornata
mcmtanyel (12491) 2014-06-06 6:25
A red steam engine, how unusual (they're mostly black) and what an eye-catcher! The blue and white flag painted on it makes a perfect contrast.
To answer your question, I felt quite safe in Israel. They take their security very seriously. The barbed wire you saw in that photo was preserved for tourism.

Good shot! The locomotive is very eye catching. I like the flag in front, the colours of the autumn leaves and the effect of the smoke. The man is also well placed!

there are a few train lovers here on TE, and I am certainly one of them.
glad I found this photo now, a bit late though :)
I actually believe the autumn colored trees and branches in the bg make the photo just that much better! And yet you took this photo in April.
love the steam, love the vibrant red, and just the overall look and feel of the photo.
swapankumarroy (2837) 2014-10-14 11:07
The leaves were changing their color and the forest was colorful but this red colored small engine was shunting in this forest, this is a narrow gauge line and the man was supervising it, well narrated and also informative your article, nice composition with sharp color contrast and well detailing.
my warm regards,
