On the way to Viedma Glacier on a boat to do some glacier walking, we encountered some interesting weather, on one side it was dark and cloudy and on the opposite side it was sunny with some really strange cloud formation. This one looks like a spirit flying.
In order to show the overall, this is stitched from 2 images.
Viedma Glacier is a large glacier that is part of the huge Southern Patagonian Ice Field, located at the southern end of mainland South America, located in Los Glaciares National Park, in the Patagonia region of Argentina. The Southern Patagonian Ice Field is 13,000 square kilometers; Viedma Glacier is one of the Ice Field's 48 outlet glaciers that have more than 20 square kilometers of ice field area each.

Un endroit magique et un ciel absolument fantastique pour une merveilleuse photo.
Bergenphotos (2968) 2010-12-14 9:30
Hi again Way.
You never fail to impress me! I can imagine those glaciers of Patagonia are a beautiful sight. I just can't ignore that the image looks a bit over-sharpened, and that the sky doesn't look entirely natural. Am I right? Anyway, the cloud formation is cool and the glacier itself is impressive. Not easy to find something to compare the glacier with out there, but how tall was it?
humayun (3105) 2010-12-14 9:31
beautiful image and good hard work..........
pov is nice also..........
good work and nice atmosphere........
siolaw (38292) 2010-12-14 9:33
You've got not only some of the most amazing landscapes but also an amazingly dynamic sky with clouds of all shapes and textures.
SnapRJW (31629) 2010-12-14 10:07
Hello there - Gosh what a stunning place and you have photographed it so well. Clean, crisp, good natural colour. Looks like another place on my wish list! TFS and best regards Rosemary
Wahclellaspirit (4107) 2010-12-14 10:20
The colors of the landscape and ice are very different when they are coupled together. I like that you captured some of the detail in the ice peaks of the glacier as it shows the heights that it reaches.
Now, it is the spirit of Christmas coming,
Charo (51212) 2010-12-14 10:25
The glaciers are always spectacular, but that wonderful sky you've captured, is the true star of the picture. Bravo!
dta (82258) 2010-12-14 10:38
Hello Way !
Fantastic ! The higher cloud seems to be a ghost ! I've nener seen a sky like this . The landscape is splendid , too , wit a superb contrast between the white-blue ice and tbrown rocks .
A gorgeaous capture .
ade71 (2228) 2010-12-14 11:58
Hi dear friend, you took a sensational picture with great details and contrasts. Congrats, Ade
korbee (6619) 2010-12-14 13:01

ciakgiak (30433) 2010-12-14 14:18
a really spectacular winter scene, the cloudy sky is superb!, the colors are magnificent, the quality is excellent.
Congratulations and TFS.
paololg (31448) 2010-12-14 14:30
Incredibly beautiful and suggestive image, dear Way, the clouds of the sky seem really three-dimensional. Very beautiful the contrast among the colors of the ice and the rocks, thanks also to the perfect sharp. Sincere congratulations for this pleasant and interesting photo.
Ciao, have a nice day!
npecanhuk (78435) 2010-12-14 15:48
Magnificent clouds in the sky!
Wonderful natural details!
Very attractive picture!
TFS - congrats,
hispic (9652) 2010-12-14 19:19
Really strange cloud formation that is characteristic of Patagonia is truly beautifully depicted with fine smooth and sharp definition.
Luminous whites are superb, indeed!
Best wishes, Hisashi
Suppiluliuma (3931) 2010-12-14 22:24
The clouds look really spectacular. I hope you took many shots to obtain a panoramic view.
emka (106548) 2010-12-14 23:13
Hi Way, In the thumbnail it looked like Perito Moreno. Fantastic glacier, beautiful blue. It is also calving. I like the clouds above - very beautiful and in interesting shapes. Wonderful composition from Patagonia.
ktanska (29221) 2010-12-15 0:27
That blue sky looks like a canvas of an artist. Lower clouds resemble waves braking to rocks and if you want to see it that way, there's even two spirits visble.
Glacier ice breaking on the sea edge is always impressive, and still it's not in a main role on this one.
baclama (18896) 2010-12-15 0:38
les couleurs me font rever...le POV est tres bien choisi pour nous faire decouvrir cette region du globe qui m'attire beaucoup
mikolaj_kawa (0) 2010-12-15 1:22
Amazing landscape. Wonderful rocks and mountains. Superb clouds.
Superb lightness and colours. Very good cut and frame.
ecmel (1443) 2010-12-15 3:32
This is a great shot to show the beauty of the Viedma Glacier. The air is perfectly clear giving a very sharp image and showing great detail.
HimalAnda (10671) 2010-12-15 4:42
The clouds are strange, but the main interest of your picture is, in my opinion, this huge glacier falling in the ocean (or in a lake?). Its blue color is beautiful and contrasts with the dark rocks.
BennyV (20445) 2010-12-15 4:50
Not only the glacier, also the clouds look frozen!
Good choice of format too.
Bartleby (13552) 2010-12-15 8:06
impressive scenery! I like how you left a big part for the sky, that clearly deserved it. Those clouds really are surprising.
LOOOK13 (19046) 2010-12-15 8:14
What a cloudy sky !!!!
A great shot.
Very very nice , good job, my friend.
holmertz (58964) 2010-12-15 11:54
What is the most fantastic in this photo: the marvellous shapes of the clouds or the incredible light green mountainside? Every detail of this photo is stunning, and although it looks like a cold part of the world I envy you for seeing this.
zanzi (13690) 2010-12-15 12:12
Okay the glacier is beautiful. But I am more attracted by the clouds. They are awesome. Bravo
CLODO (35700) 2010-12-15 23:18
Nice trip to South America! the glacier is impressive, but not as much as the cloudy sky.
mkamionka (39905) 2010-12-16 2:13
HA HA HA
very funny and accurate title.
The Patagonian glaciers are really spectacular. I did not have the chance to see this one. I was in El Chalten but prefered to hike to Laguna Torres. Having more time I would surely do that as well.
This is an incredible landscape, so unusual.
Very well captured here. The ghost is an extra bonus.
By the way, I have several photos which require stitching. I have used only the Photo Stich program from canon but I am not happy with the outcome. What are you using?
Cricri (125720) 2010-12-16 5:01
Le pays de Florent Pagny..
Superbe paysage de contraste et un ciel magnifique qui s'ajoute a la beauté du paysage, merveilleuse image
pablominto (53746) 2010-12-16 23:20
Sky, land and sea play well together to create this fine scenery, almost with an abstract feeling in its appearance!
Well framed, excellent quality - all together impressive!
s_lush (16602) 2010-12-16 23:37
As your shot shows, this remote area has its own, quite unique natural features, such as the beautiful glacier of unusual forms, nice rocks of wonderful colors, uncommon sky with absolutely unconventional shapes of the clouds, and a special Patagonian atmosphere. A highly artistic job!
pauloog (11751) 2010-12-17 2:44
what a spectacle it is this wonderful strange sky above the glacier, well captured by choosing a low horizon.
Angshu (56760) 2010-12-17 8:09
Love the picture...the stitch is flawless as well, no hint of it here! The jagged edge of the glacier looks like shark teeth, quite amazing a view! I also like the cloud to the top, which looks like a whale. Fine technical quality as always, with excellent colour combination which makes this picture lively. Splendid stuff!
chawax (20760) 2010-12-18 9:06
This is Patagonia as I always imagined it, a mix of ice and rocks, very wild lansdscapes. The plus here is the sky and in particular these incredible clouds.
sacavem (18620) 2010-12-19 5:38
Argentina / Santa Cruz as a country of rare natural beauty, you're very lucky to know this country.
Magnificent lakes and mountains.
Is a pretty postcard of this place. Good colours, definition and contrast.
I use BETA-TrekEarth
shevchenko (20548) 2010-12-19 20:05
Good frame to the glacier and sunny sky, very nice abstract painting by the giant clouds and this should be a bonus to visitors, distinct photo, thanks for sharing a fantastic natural view.
mesutilgim (97458) 2010-12-20 23:51
Amazing scenery, amazing capture !

I hope you're having a good festive season. This photo is awesome, the colours and sharpness your usual high quality. And on top of that the clouds are remarkable. And the square frame is superbly chosen. Wonderful job. And I wish you every happiness in 2011.
foozi (7101) 2011-01-01 23:38
such a dramatic composition of the clouds, sky and earth.
very strong rendition in splendid details and sharpness.
Well seen with exciting composition from you.

Wonderful view, the spirit is well refelcted, the pure nature as its best...superb colours and space sense...Great!!!
Have a nice day...
Matthew-Watt (5934) 2011-01-22 20:22
Your gallery is superb, your images very clear and refined. I will add your gallery to my favourites to ensure I visit more often. This glacier shows the might of nature. Water is shown as liquid, ice and vapor in the one scene. So many details to behold. Beautiful rich saturation of colour. TFS.
Elaine_Blath (8509) 2011-01-26 1:31
Patagonia is my still unfulfilled dream. This is a superb photo of the glacier with excellent sky and very chilly hues of blue...
Good work, Ivana
mdetay (4865) 2011-02-06 23:37
Hi Way ne Lim,
Great shot and superbe composition. Well done.
selay22 (254) 2011-03-05 0:39
What a beautiful shot!!
I dont know which I love more....the three amazingly distinct mountain rages overlapping each other or the 3 layers of clouds fighting for out attention.
kiks (12759) 2011-03-05 6:22
Incredibel beutiful the iceblue from the glacier. The inclusion of the 'red'land at the right is very good and the intersting cloud is also a eyecatchre. Many things to see on this image.
Robert1969 (7160) 2011-06-04 9:41

Way, if there is one thing I regret, that is visiting and seeing the majestic glaciers of AR. It's given, the place is really beautiful but I really liked the inclusion of this smooth oddly shaped clouds which is very attractive and really stunning. One looks like a flying person if you notice. Wonderful! I shall visit this one day.
abmdsudi (57600) 2012-04-30 0:57
This is stunning with the strata detail you have picked up in the rock face and the ice has a fabulous blue tone against the ragged mountains. Wonderful image and I wonder how much of it is left. I particularly love the details and colours of the glacier reflecting the power and majesty of nature wonder with the clouds seem to rise from the backdrop filling much of the space. This savage beauty would do justice to a geology textbook. Congrats, TFS
smash2707 (3320) 2012-12-07 19:56
Beautiful landscape under an amazing sky. Nice composition, great sharpness, nice colors. TFS
nikkitta (17068) 2013-12-13 15:11
I have seen lot of photos of the glaciers but this is a quiet creative one because of the presence of the stuning sky, the true protagonist of the capture
I read the comments and what else to add ?
I like the color contrast obtained by the three blues, lake, glacier and sky and the very creative frame
Thanks for posting such a beauty of Argentina
A pity you didnt cross to Paraguay, meteres away from the rute, it s the rural country with interesting scenes
Waiting for your next post
ikeharel (78129) 2014-01-02 9:43
Magnificent view of the known glacier, stunning nature's phenomenon by itself. Yet, the the clouds aloft made this pic. a unique sight altogether.
Clarity and WB well handled, contrast of the black rocks ridge on right side.
Impressive and intriguing shot.
