Well, I didnt think I could be once in my life almost so close to a whale that I dont need zoom !! At Puerto Madryn, Argentina, they propose tours to see the whales. Of course, they know perfectly the places and dates to see them, but eventhough, its a real pleasure and surprising scene. If you want to picture them, select the multiple shots mode on your camera if you have one. It makes a lot of shots and your have more chance to have a good one.. but be careful not to move, especially when the waves are present, like today for me !!

Very cool shot. I think I would be slightly frightened to see a whale THAT close. Very cool shot. I would be interested in seeing more shots of some of these whales that you may have gotten.

Great vivid color here, I really like the blue glow from the water that you can see on the whale's skin. A very nice, simple shot.

Great shot! What kind of whale is it? It is very interesting that whale is so close to the shore. I'd like to add to your advices about shooting of whales one more: to use manual focus, it works faster.

Wow, that IS close. Till now I've always had to use my 'zoom'. Good for you, must be wicked to see them from this close - I mean, a few meters from you.. !

It is a southern right whale, isn't it? I have spotted one from a suburban train in Cape Town.
