Although the Recoleta Cemetery is a very touristy place in Buenos Aires, I did not see too many photos of it yet. Narrow footpaths covered in deep shade create a unique atmosphere yet they do not help to find a wide enough point of view and they turn photographing of this place into a real challenge.
ABOUT THE PLACE
La Recoleta Cemetery is a famous cemetery located in the exclusive Recoleta neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. It contains the graves of notable people, including Eva Perón (Evita), Raúl Alfonsín, and several presidents of Argentina.
ABOUT THE TITLE
The phrase Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20) is a fragment of the Epistle of Paul to the Philippians, usually referred to simply as Philippians. It is the eleventh book in the New Testament. It was written by St. Paul to the church of Philippi, an early center of Christianity in Greece.
I have chosen this sentence for the title because of the large statue of an angel who is pointing up to the sky.

an effective photo from this interesting cemetery. The atmosphere of the cemetery similar to the Pére Lachaise in Paris...the details are fantastic likewise, the colours and lights are very nice, the composition is superb, Tfs! Have a nice weekend! Kellemes hétvégét kívánok!
macjake (51264) 2011-09-02 1:54
i enjoyed reading the note below, and it helped me to understand the reasoning for the composition.
you're right, these narrow angled shots are tremendously difficult to compose! using what you were given, you did very well. the lighting/exposure is spot on my friend. and the connection with the title and the angel is a smart addition.
delpeoples (52197) 2011-09-02 2:03
Hi dear Mariusz
I'm always accusing SNunney and Timecapturer for hanging around cemeteries too much :) Now I can tease you too. But seriously, they make for such interesting subjects for photography. And here, the ancient architecture on these crypts is fascinating. It is very similar to how the Italians inter their dead, and also the Italians in this country. Although usually here we bury or cremate our dead. Do the Polish do the same as the Italians and Argentinians? Excellent diagonals, great colours and sharpness.
Have a great weekend and TFS
gildasjan (40738) 2011-09-02 2:16
emka (72098) 2011-09-02 2:27
Witaj, przeczytałam krytykę Lizy i mnie to rozbawilo, bo nie zauważyłam ,żeby SNunney i Timecapturer kręcili sie kolo cmentarzy, natomiast to ulubiony temat Krzyska. Stale nagrobki albo cmentarne kaplice.
bayno (18342) 2011-09-02 2:52
Hi Mauriusz, excellent choice of POV, nice composition, a bit macabre, we hope to get to that place as late as possible, excellent sharpness and color, for the moment have fun, Valter
timecapturer (44265) 2011-09-02 4:32
a wonderfully sharp and detailed composition, which has a beauty of its own. The perspective and light are amazing and so well controlled. Captivating and fascinating!
Wishing you a peaceful weekend - Brian.
Sonata11 (33081) 2011-09-02 4:34
Super zdjecie.
holmertz (36343) 2011-09-02 5:31
Considering the difficulties you have described you have done remarkably well to catch this view. The crypts are impressive, although I ask myself if the dead really need to be surrounded by such wealth. The exposure and saturation are perfect.
josepmarin (57459) 2011-09-02 5:55
with this nice photo you show us a reality: up to in the death there are social classes.
The pantheons and the tombs of this cemetery in Buenos Aires are impressive, and have a great sculptural wealth.
You have caught it under a good light, with a few shades that emphasize its artistic forms and with a beautiful sky and a few really aesthetic clouds.
A very interesting composition, with a great technical execution.
maria-v1981 (10420) 2011-09-02 6:19
Excellent technique and composition. The architecture detais are perfect so the managed light. The cloudy sky match perfect with the mystery atmosphere.
Very attracrive picture,
Have a nice weekend,

excellent frame you shot.unique architecture you captured.
jugnutoor (1017) 2011-09-02 13:40
Hi Mariusz , Beautiful shot of the architecture at the Cemetery, sharp sunlight coupled with old dirty texture on the walls give gloomy effect.
siolaw (38018) 2011-09-02 22:21
An interesting place (to see, not to stay there!) under a favourable light. These tombs look actually beautiful, in baroque style.
Fine general quality too.
baddori (19157) 2011-09-02 22:27
danos (82615) 2011-09-03 0:28
really this cemetery looks very famous as its family graves are little architectural miracles containing notable people of Argentina,as you write in the informative note.I like the creative perspective as the rich decoration elements of the graves.
Have a good weekend,Danos
JFS (32459) 2011-09-03 4:08

mauro61 (52623) 2011-09-03 9:36
paololg (31448) 2011-09-03 10:02
Ciao dear Mariusz,
I do not know this cemetery and I do not know the difficulties to capture good photos inside, but here you have really captured a significant image, with an amazing quality and an incredible definition of details. Once again it is pleasant to see how you transform the 2D into 3D. Very interesting notes that explain the meaning of the title. Congratulations!
Ciao, have a nice Sunday!
Fis2 (81453) 2011-09-03 12:12
Ladny kadr i perspektywa.
Lubie takie klimaty.
Ciekaw jestem czy pokazesz ktoregos od frontu?
nikkitta (12684) 2011-09-03 15:00
I just read what you said about searching a new work, hope you find a quiet one to let you continue with the photos
Do you know the name Recoleta cemetery is also known?
"City of angels", because of the many sculptures of them that are there
Great way to present this special place, the tombs are ( I read the discussions) mainly from Italian and Spanish families' origin and some french also, not an Argentinian invent
Nowadays people prefer new garden-cemeteries
Your capture is great for the way you manage to obtain it in such narrow place ...of heavens and angels
Greetings and have a good Sunday
Graal (95007) 2011-09-03 23:21
niezwykly cmentarz w stolicy Argentyny. Bogate te grobowce, architektura fasad jak w zabytkowych kosciolach. Dobry pionowy kadr. Interesujaca notka. Swietny dokument.

A lovely neat shot, a character-filled feature, clean & authentic caught in wonderful light, clarity, tones and brilliant detail and the contrast against the sky is superbly striking. Marvellous capture and so much delicacy to absorb in particular I love the fine textures and design of the stonework just pop out strongly and the composition is great with good diagonal. Well taken, tremendous shot so full of interest, a well written notes to go along. Well done, Congrats
npecanhuk (60106) 2011-09-04 6:24
I usually don't like to visit such places but in Buenos Aires I did it so, just in order to see Evita's grave!
Again, you did such a great photo job with it and the visual results are interesting and attractive!
TFS - congrats,
adramad (34863) 2011-09-04 9:41
A great title, which is perfect for this fantastic composition with the row of tombs, which most elegant and architecturally diverse.
A superb POV in this vertical composition, which shows the cemeteries under a beautiful blue sky, very good sharpness to admire the details and a pretty light day. Well done.

Good composition and light management

jafadabret (56497) 2011-09-07 10:22
Angshu (54489) 2011-09-08 2:30
I had first seen a picture of this place from a picture in Photofolia. I found it unbelievable that such grand stuctures which loks like houses was actually a cemetery. Its true we don't see mnay pictues of this place & hence this picture is indeed special. Have money..will spend! Amazing place & a fine depiction!
jhm (134384) 2011-09-08 3:45
What a splendid image, every tomb is exactly a small house.
You chose a nice angle this gives perspective and depth.
Very fine image, sharpness and clarity are wonderful
Excellent captured and nice composed. TFS.
s_lush (16132) 2011-09-11 13:19
The architecture of this sad place is quite unique and richly decorated. You have chosen a good point of view and composition to show the facades in long extent. The philosophic title, high-quality picture and informative note are excellent here. Perfectly good job!
Ricx (13495) 2011-09-12 1:07
Hi Mariusz, I trust that you are well > a fantastic image with good detail and depth - a most pertinent note and title- hope the job hunting is going well Rich
annjackman (17387) 2011-09-12 1:12
This is a very interesting and unusual subject. You chose a very good POV and kept wonderful detail throughout the picture. I like the brown and grey tones against the partly cloudy blue sky. Excellent work.
UlfE (14635) 2011-09-13 12:00
An excellent perspective and composition. The vertical format is a very good choice. Plenty to look at. Nice lighting and colours. TFS and have nice evening!

Excellent shot of the cemetery. I didn't have a chance to visit here, it was close by the time I was around here. Maybe next time when I return to Patagonia :) I wish and I dream.
Excellent perspective and really good detial and composition.
marcan44 (6223) 2011-09-16 9:47
very interesting note and the explanation how you can make photos more spacious due to the narrow paths.
I like the title of the photo, which shows the monumentality of this famous cemetery.
mesutilgim (79256) 2011-09-17 13:18
Nice capture of this famous cemetery in Buenos Aries.
A place full of nice cemetery architecture.
TFS and have a nice weekend
madhumita_roy86 (2344) 2011-10-22 11:06
excellent POV...good light, with a few shades.... beautiful sky....The exposure and saturation are perfect....
Noel_Byrne (19957) 2012-09-16 9:21
This is a fascinating shot, I am always intrigued by these elaborate tombs, and these are beautiful. What stands out for me is the selection of colours of the tombs. I like to find places like this in Ireland, but generally, the tombs all tend to be the same, dark grey. Here they each have a life of their own and look more like little mansions.
Thanks for sharing
