Sunset & Buenos Aires & 9 de Julio Avenue & Evita & Would Cup
Photo taken yesterday at 5.45, minutes before the first part of the football match between Holland and Argentina ended
Allegorically the avenue was dark while there were some sun still at the high, half and half, good time for a shot
About the Photo
Taken once more at 9 de Julio Avenue, called “The wide avenue of the world”
At the back are
The building of the former Ministry of Public Works, it was the first skyscraper in Buenos Aires with over 20 floors, funded by the national government. Its reinforced concrete structure was built in record time, and was completed in 138 working days of work
A giant iron portrait of Eva Peron, the work of 31 meters high and 24 meters wide, weighs 15 tons
It’s similar to the portrait of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, another Argentine icon, located on the facade of the former Ministry of Industry in Havana, Cuba

A fine view of the street with great framing. Beautiful play of the soft light on the buildings. The dots of light from the streetlights and the automobiles going deep into the frame are superb too. Beautiful portrait of the artist.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice evening.
Best wishes for the Final Match!

Traffic-lights glittering against the street darkness, Maria, but there is some movement, not crowded - but not completely deserted.
Beautiful painted wall on the right-side building.
Sharpness and DOF superbly collected.

Hola Miss Maria,
"Shhhhh" is what you must have heard when you were out on these empty streets...and it's no wonder there aren't any people about....I mean, look at all of the red lights...you could never go anywhere! :) It's best to stay inside and watch the match. ;)
You, however, did just the opposite and ended up with another, almost eery and lifeless, photo opportunity. At least the rain has cleared away and there's a bit more of an upbeat vibe now....especially now, right? :))
Seriously though, this is a lovely view down the boulevard with the soft, warm light to accent the buildings and highlight the main attraction of Eva. Even without a lot of action or human element, this is a telling and very well documented picture/series of the culture which supports its national team so much that the streets are virtually void of presence. Well done mi amiga! Enjoy the new day. Be good.
Cheers from the Southwest U.S.,

Hello Maria, Again, all were sitting watching TV and you were enjoying the empty street. I can imagine how it will be during the final match. Will you again go make photos?
Amazing this Evita portrait. Beautiful composition, pleasant atmosphere. Nice early evening shot.

what an interesting shot, all of the many interspersed traffic lights appear to be on red!Nothing moving in Buenos Aires..
The warm evening light across the top of the buildings is very attractive.
I guess that everything will halt again tomorrow for the final, perhaps another photo opportunity?
Warm regards Les.

This is a superb street photo in very well controlled light. The arrangement with the toll buildings and the small traffic lights is excellent.
Very well done my friend.
p.s. Are you going to watch the soccer spectacle today? Who is going to win? Argentina is very good, but I think Germany is a bit stronger. Let's see......

Hola mon amie Maria, ce soir je serais a tes côtés :-)
Bel effet de la lumière sur le haut de la ville....Et bien avec tout ces feux rouges il y a intérêt a partir tôt.... une belle image de la ville sans la pluie :-)

This is much better weather than the one in the last photo you posted. Seeing that portrait, the song "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" is going on in my head.

Credit that you have timed this dusk shot so well when all the blinking reds are glittering like a fairyland along the almost empty boulevard in stark contrast enveloped by by wonderful low evening warm light. The iconic fig is a glorious addition as an added interest as you have used the best opportunity to grab the moment precisely to your favour. This is a very fine photo work, Congrats. TFS

I can almost hear Julie Covington singing "Don't cry for me Argentina", although some prefer the Madonna version. This is subliminally suggested by the Eva Peron portrait atop the high rise and what looks like a microphone. The open windows looked like minims at first. And yes not much life in the streets. Calgary was like this at 5 pm when almost everyone deserted the city en masse for the suburbs. Tfs!

Hola Maria querida,
this view, although far from Brazil and having nothing to do with sports, will make one of the World Cup memories:) You had an original idea with these series of pictures on empty Buenos Aires, I enjoyed the glimpses into the quiet wintry cityscapes very much. This is a lovely composition, deep and well balanced, clear and moody. I like very much the subtle warmth of the light and the consistent theme of the red traffic lights. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
PS1 I read that the players of Argentina donated their bonus money to a children's hospital, you must be proud.
PS2 I thought that it was just a full moon, didn't know it was the biggest one for more than year. Although I took quite a few pictures that evening, I might have tried to zoom in, at least as much as my camera would have allowed me to:)
