Photographer's Note
"Why are there women here dancing on their own?
Why is there this sadness in their eyes?
Why are the soldiers here
Their faces fixed like stone?
I can't see what it is that they dispise
They're dancing with the missing
They're dancing with the dead
They dance with the invisible ones
Their anguish is unsaid
They're dancing with their fathers
They're dancing with their sons
They're dancing with their husbands"
They dance alone They dance alone
Sting "they dance alone"
This is a murales from "la Boca" reminding "los desaparecidos" during the Argentinian Dictatorship
As every milestone this image goes straight to my theme Don't forget or turn your head! TE is also this!
During Argentina's Dirty War and Operation Condor, many alleged political dissidents were abducted or illegally detained and kept in clandestine detention centres such as ESMA, where they were questioned, tortured and sometimes killed. Whenever the female captives were pregnant, their children were stolen away right after giving birth, while they themselves remained detained. Eventually, many of the captives were heavily drugged and taken on airplanes far out over the Atlantic Ocean, into which they were thrown alive, allegedly with heavy weights tied to their feet, so as to leave no trace of their death. Without any dead bodies, the government could easily deny any knowledge of their whereabouts and any accusations that they had been killed. People murdered in this way (and in others) are today referred to as "the disappeared" (los desaparecidos), and this is where the modern usage of the term derives. There is an activist group called "Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo", formed by mothers of those victims of the dictatorship.

Ciao Silvio,

Buon Martedi' e complimenti,Luciano

I actually like the art work on the wall and hence I like your photo.

Hello Silvio - Your 750 post comes with a seriousness that seems at odds with a celebration but I guess history teaches that this is so often the case. Congratulations on reaching this milestone, your shot is bold and an excellent example of political graffiti. Warm regards Rosemary
