This is a memorial that was erected in 1974 in memory of the poor souls that perished in a terrible bus accident in Argentina..
The information that I was able to find tells me that - On the 8th September in 1974 a bus was returning from a religious pilgrimage & ran off a road plunging 750 feet into a canyon below - this happened on the outskirts of The Province of Salta - killing 35 people - very tragic.
One stands there reflecting on what it must have been like for those poor human souls that knew they were plummeting to their death.
There are many dangerous mountain roads throughout the world & I have recently travelled on many in Argentina ' the mighty Andes ' I would imagine that when this terrible accident happened the road would have been in a primitive condition.
I think what makes this worse is knowing that these poor missionaries were spreading god's word & this was their reward.

usually I tend not to critique tumb-stones and kind of private memorial's monuments, but looking at this and reading your note I found this rather interesting.
You perfectly positioned the camera with the backdrop of a mountain and probably a deep trough beyond.
That's conjoin with the story told.
Good point you made, nice photo posted.
Have a nice friday night in AU now,

This is a simple but worthy memorial. Looking at the distant mountainside it's easy to imagine the horror felt by the passengers of that unlucky bus. It's a straightforward photo with suitable surroundings and a good exposure.

I really like the idea of this lovely, almost medieval, religious plaque, as a memeorial, in such a lonely place. The boulders and vegetationhelp to frame the memorial nicely, anchoring the f/g and taking every advantage to emphasise the steep drop, beyond.
I don't usually do w/s as it feels intrusive on someone else's work but I just felt that this memorial wouls be more impressive closer to the viewers and highlighted with a little more brightness. I hope you are not offended by my w/s.
My warm regards,

What a beautiful memorial to mark such a tragic event. As you say, one cannot help but think of what those poor souls went through in their final moments and it is very sweet of you to commemorate them in this way. The icon of the Madonna and Child is very beautiful, I like the deep colours of the photo and how you have composed the shot slightly off-centre, allowing us to view those beautiful yet treacherous mountains beyond. Thanks for sharing and I wish you a lovely day.

It is sad to know about the road accident in the 70s.The memorial must remind all road planners to build safe roads in the hilly terrains so that we don't get to see such memorials again.Good work to highlight a touching issue by means of your camera.

You captured this memorial wonderfully. This was one of the so many accidents. The colors, sharpness, clarity, light are great. Perfectly well done.

Really great composition to have the memorial to the side like this and still allow us to see the mountains, which emphasizes your note in the height here. The story doesnt bear thinking about, but this memorial is solemn and beautiful in their memories. Lovely colours and great handling of the poor light.
All the best

Beautifully taken image.. sad story. I just found a poem from web, leave it here for the poor souls..
A Stairway to Heaven
If Tears Could Build A Stairway
And Memories A Lane
I’d Walk Right Up To Heaven
And Bring You Home Again.
Stay safe, Dawn.

Ola Dawn ,
Interessante este memorial em honra das mortos neste acidente de autocarro nesta estrada , a paisagem é linda mas deve ser bem perigoso andar nestas estradas de carro a esta altura , parabéns!!
Um abraço Gonçalo

It is a well-chosen framing, in a straight-angle shot that works very well graphically, and gives a nice perspective to the memorial. The light and the colors are magnificent.
Well done. Have a nice weekend.

Excellent image, the composition is well thought out, making sure the memorial leads the eye around and to the scene in the background. Colours have also been used imaginatively with nice contrasting colors, a worth seeing touchy picture indeed, TFS.Kind regards

very beautiful image showing the image of Mary and Jesus with the deep valley and mountains ahead. yes, there are many dangerous highways and some drivers make them worst.

Hello Dawn, it is amazing how cultures can be so similar! We have the same memorials along the roads in Greece! This is a beautiful one with great detail and a gorgeous Madonna's portrait with the extraordinary mountains in the background! Well done!!
