Photographer's Note

Because I was working also as a meteorologist I need to explain phenomena visible on this picture.

This is phenomena called: "Mammatus" (or mamma or mammatocumulus). At the bottom of Cumulonimbus cloud arise a cellular pattern of pouches. This pouches are looking like a breast (in latin: mamma).

When mammatus is occurring in Cumulonimbus cloud you can be almost sure it is strong storm coming. It was the same in this evening. We were just going back from Iguazu Falls and when I saw this clouds I said to my Girlfriend - hurry up it will be a big rain and thunderstorm, I was right just five minutes after I took this photo it was a wall of water around us and a lot of lightnings.

I'm very happy to have picture of this phenomena, specially because last rays of sunset gave a dramatic light on a cloud.

Regards, Piotr
