Photographer’s Note

Humahuaca is located along the road leading from San Salvador de Jujuy to la Quiaca, near the Bolivian border. This area of the Andean Northwest is the place that impressed me the most, by its landscapes (the fantastic Quebrada de Humahuaca, world heritage)as well as by its strong, deep-rooted native culture. The Humahuaca culture appeared 10000 years BC, as testified by cave paintings, found in the village of Coctaca, a 3-hours walk from Humahuaca. Cocataca is also surrounded by pre-Colombian remains of a town and agricultural settlement. The path to Coctaca snakes along a dried river, and the scorching sun lets virtually only cacti grow. On our way to Coctaca, one of our few encounters were this old shepherd, leading her flock to the pasture.

Hello Jerome,
very interesting portrait... the old lady seems a little tired to me, though. Perhaps she is wondering "Why is this man taking a photo of me?"
Her hat is seen perfectly, but face seems a bit too dark to me but still it is OK and her face is seen clearly enough. What was the main aim of the shot? the hat or the face?
Best wishes,
and Happy New Year!:)
Elena
