Cerro de los Siete Colores (The Hill of Seven Colors) is one of the hills bordering the Quebrada de Purmamarca.
Its unique color range is the product of a complex geological history including marine sediments, lake and river movements elevated with the movement of the tectonic plates.

The colours are fantastic and I should really like to be able to investigate the transgressive contact. Is it a present-day weathering phenomenon with a crust of laterite at the base of a weathering profile with some more iron oxide being leached down from above? It seems so. Very good perspective and composition.

Quelle joli paysage désertique et les montagnes sont fantastiques. J'ai vu semblable en Tunisie avec des édifices semblables au pied des montagnes. La végétation est superbe et que dire des couleurs, elles sont splendides. Beau détails en grand.
Tous mes compliments,

nice photo of Purmamarca. I didn't know this place and I glad to see your photo and note about ir. I like the point of view with the cactus in forground. The polorised sky is very pretty as well as the mountain range.

Sweet memories for me to see a post from Jujuy where I was only 3 months ago
You can if you have time have a look to the Argentina part of my gallery
Usually tourists go to the south part in Patagonia and not so many to the Salta Noroeste region but it's likely to change
Here nice colors and light of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, so typical
Thanks for sharing this one, expecting some others maybe

I've heard of this place but have never seen a picture of it.
The different colours of the rocks are awesome. On the big version we can see them very clear.
Very attractive foreground with the village and the giant cactus.
Best regards, Paul

What a fine shot Frederico. My husband is a geologist and I am always interested in rock formation and rocky landscapes. The colours are wonderfully clear in this shot. What a harmonious and attractive shot. Warm regards Rosemary

easy to see why you'd want to post this one. The colors really do jump off the screen dont they.
and i really like being drawn in by that V shape from the middle, excellent post.
