Jervis Bay is about 3 hours south of Sydney, so when my wife and I visited, we planned an overnight trip. As we checked out, I talked to the owner of the establishment we stayed at, to determine where he thought we should go for some nice views of the area, for photography. He suggested Hyams Beach of course, and suggested several places within Booderee National Park including Murrays Beach, but he told us also for the best shot of the Bay itself and the park we should stop just before we entered the park and look out over the water. There is a turnaround for cars there, unmarked as a lookout point, but the view is awesome.

This is a view of the southern portion of Jervis Bay, ( TE members are invited to visit the large post ). Where I am standing (as I took this shot) I am in New South Wales. A few meters to my right is the park entrance and the border with the Australian Captial Territory (water access), a couple of miles to my left is Hyams Beach. From here, you can see Bowen Island directly ahead, with Governors Head directly across the water from it, Murrays Beach is close to Governors Head. The built up area on the water is the naval college, HMAS Creswell, and directly in front between me and the water, is a couple of miles of Banksias and Eucalypts,

To take this shot I stood on a pile of dirt, to gain clearance over the front Banksias, and Eucalypts between me and the shore. I didn’t bother with my tripod, which was a mistake I regretted later, but when I saw the view I decided then I wanted a pano.

Workflow:
I follow a generic workflow now as outlined in my Bio.
Details and differences to this are as follows:
Shots taken at 55mm, ISO 250, f/13, 1/60 sec
Extended canvas from first shot and pulled additional into it as separate layers
Manually matched shots with adjustments made to horizontal and vertical (should have used the tripod) distortions
Applied layer mask, and blended different layers with masking
Applied my action as per bio
Levels tweaked
Curves tweaked
Overlay layer with 5% opacity black brush used for burning
Saved as tiff
Cropped for large post, did my usual noise reduction and sharpening and framed
Saturation increased to +30 on master, (to match web colour – proof colours with shot)
Saved at 79% quality for 396K (600K limit would be nice)
Backed up and cropped for small post, did my usual noise reduction and sharpening and framed
Saved at 96% for 196K

Hi John, I like this panarama, especially the larger version. Good level horizon and excellent width showing a lot of details. It is a famous part of NSW but i haven't stopped there as yet. Beautiful PP work details. TFS. Murray.

Hi John,
The large version is really amazing! The details and clarity that you got here is very good. Thanks fr sharing,
Shaeri

Hi John,
beautiful the large version where we can see all the beautiful details and enjoy the great view. The good light management allowed you to deliver a nicely bright and clear image where the contrast between the blue of the ocean and the dark green of the vegetation makes the compo beautiful to look at.
Great job!
Cheers,

Igor

p.s: I see you used the 17-55, what you think about that lens?

hi John

For 1/60s, I find the larger version has good sharpness and focus, well composed to show the wide view of the bay view. The DOF is great from f/13 from FG to the buildings along the beachfront. Somehow the texture of FG turns out quite well in dark shade of green. I like the deep blue sea and the little white of buildings on shore.

Hello John, Nice panoramic view with lovely blues, Excellent detail & clarity as always, I like the effect the sunlight has on the tree tops. You large version is also very good & allows us better to distinguish the trees in FG, I can see those brown Banksias & those beautiful Gum trees. Lovely scene very well captured & presented. Interesting & informative note. Note on workflow excellent but you are starting to lose me. :-)
Thanks
Santo

Hi John,

The point of view leads our eyes toward the other side of Jervis bay. The curve of the bay is an asset to the composition. There is a good contrast between the colors. It is also well divided. Have a nice day.

John, I was so sure I commented on this one, but must have not gone through. Here's another try. This is an excellent image with so much details, especially on the large version. Wow, Nothing to pick on here. Great sharpness and clarity, color and light well process, and off course the composition and the panoramic view make this image breath taking. TFS once agian.

Hello John,
The original post here is already impressive enough. when I saw the large post I felt overwhelmed by the clarity of details captured in this shot. The sunlight acts as a spot light highlighting the white buildings in the distant, which captured the viewers' attention to it immediately.
Excellent piece of work.

Regards
Alfred

Hello John. I like this wide perspective and enjoyed my visit to the large view. The view is so beautiful and would just love to visit the place myself. Very well composed above the trees caught by diagonal lighting and from where you were standing. The bay is looking tranquil and pristine indeed. harp image in very deep depth complemented by beautiful sky. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

John, this is a beautiful place and certainly justifies the LP version. Color and composition are great but the detail is just awesome, great capture.
