I was going to call this image My Melbourne, but I haven't that much affection for my adopted city and I seldom visit the city itself, preferring to live in the leafy (and fire prone) suburb in the Dandenong Ranges.Still, on this day as I walked around with my camera, I was looking at the city as a tourist would and I liked what I saw around the Federation Square. Obviously so did this young couple.
Eating al fresco has become popular in Melbourne thanks to the postwar influx of Mediterranean people. Around the perimeter of the square are a number of cafes and restaurants. To the right is the grand Flinders Street railway station which according to the latest news I read, is crumbling into neglect. You cannot see the Yarra River but it does flow past the station.
The weather wasn't the best- a thin film of cloud provided the sort of glare that gave everything an even wash.

Very nice view and wonderful memories for me from this place. Weather looks fine, the orange umbrellas are eye catching, nice framing. And so pleasant atmosphere as in holidays. nice view also of the Flinders station. Is it really crumbling into neglect? It is such nice and iconic building.
have a great weekend

Hi Klaudio the tourist!
good way to discover your city: have a tourist eye and watch everything to discover some new areas or scenes.
The 2 ones are looking for a café terrace just under their feet and have alook on the yellow building among te skyscrapers.

Looks like your attitude to Melbourne is the same as mine to London... :)
In spite of what you say in the note I actually like this kind of light in this particular image. It reduced contrast and brought out details in the shaded areas.

this is a wonderful street scene from Melbourne (Leros has and is still contributing to the "influx of Mediterranean people" in it). I like how the homogeneity of the sky and the perfect placement and postures of the couple set off the rich and vibrant city setting. Clarity is excellent, creating a graphic impression and making the scenery look neater. The chromatic harmony is very agreeable too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

I find your title somewhat controversial, as I think this angle does not offer best views. This reveals that Flinders Street station is hardly more than a facade. And the awesome modern buildings of Federation Square are behind the camera. But this shows well how the city is collection of various styles over decades. And certainly a superb place to watch all the paople gathering there.

Your perspective is great showing the view of the two foreground people. The yellow umbrellas provide nice points of interest and color in the scene. The eye is drawn nicely to the fine older architecture in the background.

I am missing Melbourne after viewing this image. I used to go through Flinders Street Station many times, albeit a long time ago now. Nice repetition of the yellow / tan tent structures, which also contrast well against the blue grey sky. Tfs!

so this Flinder Railway station is in neglect? hmmm...that sounds awesome! Maybe there are some wonderful photos to be had!
Having never been to Australia, I welcome any city shot from any major city here. Keeps me very interested as I view the scene.
Its nice to see how the frame it full, no dead spaces.
A fine view of the city thats not taken often.
