This was taken on a very still Autumn evening at The Entrance on the Central Coast of New South Wales. If you look really hard, you can see a flock of pelicans in the background.

Buona settimana,Luciano

Light and colours are sublime. The composition is minimalist but perfectly formed. A success at all levels. Thanks for sharing.

These are 50 seconds very well used.I like the texture of the water a lot and I intend to take a lot of these in the days to come.I will probably wait a bit because this is very cld lately.
The colors are delicious.
Have a great day

Nice to see you post, and what a post too :) The colors here are sublime and so relaxing, I can see why this is called Happy Place. Sorry to be weird too, but you wouldn't believe how easily I can attribute personalities to those two light poles. In my eyes these two could be the stars of a great children's TV show, even the jaunty angles they are at is amusing. Redpole and Greeny I think I'll know them as!
And all portrayed against such amazing and beautiful colors. Lovely post Lisa.
I hope all is good in your world, best wishes to you and yours from Ireland :)
Cheers and Slainte

Ciao e buona settimana

Love the soft subdued colours of twilight which provides a marvelous tone to your image here. The long exposure makes the water in the FG like a glass floor. Great use of the vertical format to show the light post along with its perfect reflections on the still water. You were successful to capture a relaxed and romantic mood in this photo. Nicely done, thanks for sharing a too good photo.
mirosu (16033) 2014-02-10 5:41
Simple but excellent image. The light and the reflections are outstanding. What can I say more? Excellent photo work. Well done.

What a spectacular coulour on the water and thesky! Wonderful light in this amazing picture.
SnapRJW (31629) 2014-02-10 5:45
This is a classy shot Lisa. The port and starboard beacons make a brilliant pair of punctuation marks in a sea of lilac. Memorable work this, I like.... :)
Hope all goes well.

How lucky to have so many happy places! I remember The Entrance well, though I haven't been there for twenty years or so. The light here of course is superb. But I notice you were out of the channel: perhaps your navigation went awry as you were concentrating on getting your photograph!

"Long arm of the Romans"... I liked this phrase. thanks for the note, hope to see you here one day.
Fine red rode and a green one stuck in the shallow water, great area with the pelicans - but maybe a diff. lense needed to "shoot" them.
Marvelous sky in purple and uts reflection over water smooth silkey surface, result by the overwhelming 50 sec. exp.

Hello dear Lisa, very good picture of this interesting composition beacons enters port in this beautiful place, very well captured in this beautiful image with good sharpness, light and color. Very good and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good evening and happy start to the week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

Zooming to that red pole makes a strong main subject. Purple light is beautful. Reflection of the red light looks like flame, I like that. The grey grad filter is unnoticeable, just like it should.
ourania (43594) 2014-02-10 11:15
Hello dear Lisa,
a simple, quiet and relaxing view, a very fine photo that gets richer and more rewarding the longer we look at it. You handled the varying demands of lighting remarkably well and produced a photo where all the lights, colours and textures have displayed their special qualities and charm. There's a fantastic graduation of mid and moody tones, the two poles add depth and a graphical touch too. The texture of the water is mesmerizing. Congratulations and thank you! I hope you're fine.
All the best, have a great day,
photoray (13981) 2014-02-10 11:24
Howdy NSW Lisa,
Uncluttered and appealing view at the ocean entrance with the simple harbor pole markings mirrored along with the multi hued sky in the glassy water surface.
And a bonus with the resting pelicans in the distance.
Very relaxing and attractive,

Bien vu !!

Splendid view, well composed and with so lovely colors, very well managed, bravo !

good to see you back on TE again :)
We all miss you around here.
You come back with avengance :)
there are a number of TE members who have a signature style, so much so that we can recognize their photos even without their name attached to the posted shot...
this one is surely a 'delpeoples' post! Instantly recognizable.
You love your pinkish purple hues, so i'm sure you're delighted with these results.
heck, i know i would be.
it would be sweet to see this one in the horizontal format too.
lovely colors and exposure, she's a keeper :)
Tosca would love this place for sure!
Take care, hope you're mum is recovering
krzychu30 (15512) 2014-02-10 14:22
I think to say just beautiful would be an understatement in this case.
Wonderful and very atmospheric composition.
Love its delicate and sublime color scheme! We see many sunset/sunrise photos, that are truly amazing, but this one is a class for itself.
Evocative and so dreamy!
tyro (24032) 2014-02-10 14:36
Ciao cara Lisa,
An interesting note but an even more interesting (and obfuscating) title. I still can't work out the significance of 564 despite a lot of head-scratching.
But what a photograph! This is a picture which defines serenity and tranquility, the light and colours in the sky only surpassed by the even more wonderful light and colours on the glassy water. The light on those poles is delightful too.
Your composition is excellent, the two poles leading the eye very cleverly to a little blush of artificial light on the horizon on the left. Perfect exposure and stunning sharpness throughout.
jjcordier (79297) 2014-02-10 22:54
abmdsudi (52431) 2014-02-11 3:05
Gorgeous evening shot minus a setting sun due to cloud cover but this would make a heck of a canvas! This is just superb, can't help thinking that the stunning beacon and its reflection might have made for some awesome foreground interest though. Really enjoyed viewing this shot depicting a sense of the day ending in such smooth silky colors and very atmospheric!! Brilliant capture, my congrats. :)
timecapturer (49288) 2014-02-11 3:11
a pink hour shot that oozes charm and Yep! a happy place. I wish I had as many HP's as you!!! That aside it is an exquisite image full of the grace and calm that we all sometimes manage to find. I say this with yet another frigging storm howling around outside :-(. A cool and beautiful image. Love it!
Regards - B.
RhodieIke (11744) 2014-02-11 4:09
This what we need here, a calm and relaxed seascape at sunset, wonderful mood.
Great Pov, skimming the water, the guide poles bring us back to the present world. Lovely colours.
Love reading your critiques, especially the last one to Rosemary, you had me in stitches with your comments.
williewhistler (16310) 2014-02-11 6:13
the well judged long exposure combined with some imaginative PP has resulted in a lovely shot that oozes with tranquility, the tones are simply delightful.
Even with the 50 second exposure setting the pelicans are clear and discernable whilst the distant twinkling lights add warmth, charm and depth to a beautiful and well conceived photograph.
Warmest regards Les.
saxo042 (37794) 2014-02-11 7:28
A beautifully composed picture with some simple elements. But these are perfectly placed and add good colours as complements to the marvellous colours of the sky and its reflection in the calm water. A very artistic picture!
Royaldevon (37593) 2014-02-12 1:49
Ha! Ha! Cara Lisa, for people who only see pelicans in zoos, this is quite a trip from the norm.
It is a beautiful shot, so tranquil, so calm. The slow shutter speed has created a silky texture to the surface so your eyes almost slide across it.
The verticals are excellent markers and give a sense of perspective as well as contrasting colours.
My warm regards,
jcpix (13908) 2014-02-12 15:45
Gidday Mrs. DP,
Darn you for making me look hard to see those pelicans! :) Glad you mentioned that, my old eyes would have thought them to be nothing more than rocks!? Word around TE world is that you love the pinkish-purple hour, and this would definitely find your fancy, yeah? :) Be it natural lighting or your developed skills...or both, this turned out to be right in that wheelhouse! Simply alluring and serene, and the soft kiss of sunlight is just magic to set the tone.
I like the scattered lights along the horizon, wayyyyy back there, adding to the strong sense of depth. You know, there's really not much material needed when you can extract this kind of mood and color from a scene like this...to be cliche, it's beautiful!
Hope all is going well. Be good....but not too good. ;)
Cheers from the sunny side,
So, what are the Happy Places from 1 - 563??
ChrisJ (111632) 2014-02-13 3:08
Love the silky texture of the motion blurred water here and the nice warm cold colour contrast between the red beacon and the blue violet sky and water, withe the s=distant pelicans adding a welcome focal point. Tfs!
emka (94442) 2014-02-13 16:58
Ciao cara Lisa,
I can see in my mind you staying there with your tripod, like when we were in Coogee. And now I always have mine with me, isn't it strange? Amazing silence here. Marvelous colours of the sky and water, and these poles and their reflections looks fine in the rather simple composition.
I like the title, happy place, but what it is No. 564? \
Warm regrads from Warsaw
Kamilutka (8105) 2014-02-14 6:00
this is very fine picture and its colors are really captivating. I especially like contrasting colors of the poles and the way they stand out from the background.
Very nice long exposure made the water slightly blurred while the poles are still in perfect focus.
Well managed light.
Thanks for sharing and all the best

great shot! could easily be the work of a super-realist painter whose name escapes me. Classy work indeed.
Didi (60586) 2014-02-23 7:43
Waylim (25502) 2014-02-26 12:07
This is so beautiful, I don't have much to say. Just want to shot my appreciation. Love the smooth texture of the water and sky. the reflectioin double its beauty, the few birds provide a good sense of scale and adds to the composition. That sky, like a painting.
I'm posting a photo just for you :)
adores (44865) 2014-03-08 12:42
Beautiful shot! I like the tonalities and the good exposure. You framed it very well and got a very good symmetry with the reflection of the colourful poles!
