Gold!, a photo from New South Wales, East

Photographer's Note

The Peak gold mine near Cobar in western NSW has an open cut area and then underground mining below. This photo was taken in morning light which made the sides of the open cut glow but meant that the bottom of the pit was in deep shadow.
The area is in middle of plains that stretch to the horizon.

Hello Ian ,
A stunning place ! I like the contrast of the red gound with the blue sky . We have not element to give the scale , but the hole seems to be enormous .

Beautiful colours and textures. The winding road makes for a strong composition. I find it interesting that something so invasive can be visually so attractive.

It looks like a made made Grand Canyon. The red colour contrasts well against the blue sky. Good sharpness & the road adds scale. I haven't even been to some of the big mines in my own State yet (Mt Isa, Mt Morgan etc). Well composed with the horizon well away from the centre. Tfs!
