[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a shot of Watapam Village, not far from Honiara. I was hoping to get a bunch of fantastic photos from the Solomons, but my planning was off, it rained most of the time I was there, and nothing really worked out as imagined prior to the trip. OTOH, this was an interesting little village to find tucked in close to The Big City. In order to actually enter the village, you had to cross a "bridge" made out of 8-inch (or thereabouts) pipe. Given the amount of rain and the 15-foot drop into the river if things went awry, I didn't risk it.

This was probably my favorite day on Guadalcanal -- I managed to get somewhere without a guide (I love hiking by myself) and got into some pretty, "real"-seeming territory. This place was a breath of fresh air compared to the waste management issues that apparently engulf the city. The villagers were friendly (honestly, most people in the Solomons were great) and it seemed like a little step backward in time.

I don't think the shot's all that fantastic -- I mean, it's a picture anyone could have taken, I'm afraid. Anyone that's been to Watapam Village, at least :).
