Photographer’s Note
Here is my first shot of the people of the Solomon Islands. I thought Papua New Guniea was remote but this place takes the cake. I was diving off the Bilikiki "130 foot, 300ton". The Bilikiki has been diving the remote reef's for 16 years and we are the economy out there. After the morning dive we would find the local villagers would come out in there balsa wood dug out canoes and sell fresh vegetables to the boat for the nights dinner, like eating at chez Pannisse every night. The boat would buy goods from each person "every one gets paid" We would also buy wood carvings from them. I have a nice paddel close to the one in this photograph hanging on my wall. Not so fun to lug around half way around the world. I will put up some more photos in the next days.
He is from the Russell Island group and from Kam-mi-beim village.
The people were very shy of camera's but I shot with my 500mm lens and were able to get some nice closeups.

Good example of the unique mix of ethnicity in this part of the world seeming to change from one island to the next. This child showing origins from New Guinea and Pacific peoples Facinating!
Oh by the way dont agree with asival about the polariser, you only really use a polariser when wanting to reduce reflection and look through water if theres something of interest beneath the surface.A polariser in this case would have lost the nice reflections of the sky on water surface.I wish people would learn how to use there equipment b4 advising others !
Anyway nice one Rich
