Photographer’s Note
Apia is the capital of Samoa. The center consists more or less of two main roads. The one on the habourside with the supermarket and the government building and the other one that leads to the local market place and is home to Air New Zealand and MacDonalds.
In the early 20est century german troops conquered the islands and stayed for about 10 years. Besides german family names the police uniforms and military procedures as well as most probably the schooluniforms of the two girls remained from the 'german' history. Traditional clothing for men and women is called 'lawa' a kind of long skirt.
