The word tattoo comes from a Polynesian word tatau. The Samoan practice of tattooing is making a comeback after years of being discouraged by the missionaries.
The Samoan full body tattoo goes from the knees to the waist. The process takes several weeks to complete and costs several hundren fine mats. Needless to say, it is extremely painful.
