Photographer’s Note
A change from my recent postings and going back to a series I started of photos I took when I lived in Papua New Guinea in the early 1970s. I am going to post a couple of photos from the highlands.
We were driving along the Highlands highway between Goroka and Kundiawa. The road then was a dirt one winding up steep hills and not passable after rain. To get to Kundiawa you have to go over the high Daulo Pass (2478 metres or 8093 feet).
As we reached the top we came across this group. As far as we could work out it was a wedding party waiting for their transport. The bride is the one on the right with all the feathers (some probably from a Bird of Paradise) and looking so happy.
The photo was a slide taken on my Olympus Pen half frame but fortunately still in quite good condition. The day was misty leaving a pale sky which was good for showing dust and speckle which unfortunately I haven't managed to completely get rid of.
I hope you enjoy this photo and the next one that I post.
