That lonely lighthouse Photo

Photographer’s Note

Hello to all my TE friends,
I had posted image of Whatipu once before which situated at the southern end of our west coast of Auckland! and here is another one with the lonely lighthouse on top of the huge rock! There used to be a harbour here in the early days to export timber to overseas, and now is long gone, but the lonely lighthouse still stands!
On the far horizon is the Awhitu peninsula of South Auckland with the Manukau Harbour in between!

Hello Tony
I like the blue of the sky. It seems a different blue that usual with those clouds. Excellent point of view of the lonely lighthouse. I like that composition. Auckland seems to be a great place and thanks for sharing.

The ribboned stretches of sky, water, and land are made exciting by the inclusion of the small lonely lighthouse on top of the huge rock whose position gives it prominence and importance. A very good job!

Yes, very pretty shot.
The lighthouse sitting on that rock in this rugged landscape is an amazing sight. The reef on camera right must have made for exacting navigation for the ships that came into this port.

Weather is terrible at the moment, if it picks up at the WE maybe you fancy heading out somewhere? Lovely shot form Whatipu, with wide open spaces here. I wonder what this would be like as a pano. Natural colours and good sharpness. Very well done

what a lonely place, must be a great view from there. Is there a stairway or an elevator to the lighthouse? Wonderful position in the frame, good quality in light, sharpness and textures.

Hi Tony,
Funny, a lighthouse build on a big rock. People can only on and off at low tide it seems. Love the warm colour on the rock, breaking the contrast with the much more colder and blue parts int he sky...really nice.

This sight is really superb. The great depht of field show well the loneliness of this lighthouse.I like too the colors of the various elements (sky, sea, rocks, beach) which are very well collected.

Nice composition here placing the lighthouse off center and allowing us to see the sea and distant land on the left. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. I would hope that you could climb to where the lighthouse is for what should be an outstanding view.

very peculiar rocks and an even more peculiar lighthouse atop! (How could it be built there before the helicopter was invented?) I find your composition optimal since with a closer look you could not have shown the curiosity of the complex.

A rock formation of extraordinary beauty. I like the contrasting colors of terracotta and dark, compared to the background of various shades of blue.

The location of the elements in the frame, balances the scene, making it attractive, with good lighting. No doubt that your country is a beauty

The lighthouse on top adds another point of interest to this already beautiful and well composed seascape.
The hill with the deep beech at its feet where a snake of seawater twists, reminds me of Mont Saint Michel in France.

love the blue in this one: kind of creamy, but still punhcy... i feel though, you could have safely brought the camera up a bit - there does not seem to be much going on in the foreground.

This looks like 80-100m high?

Very interesting to see lighthouse so isolated, but the view is superb with different color from this angle. NZ landscape never fails with some coastal rocks or mountains.

I like the capture of light over this scenery.

A great view here with a very nice sunlight and fine, natural colours. Nice to see the lighthouse on top of this large cliff. Good placement of it to the right of the centre. The clouds and the light blue sky are a great background against which the cliff stands out very nicely too. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful pastel sky makes the ideal background to set off the tiny lighthouse perched atop the steep rock.
Lovely turquoise sea and swirling blue pools on the beach all contrast brilliantly with the green rock and white lighthouse.

You never cease to amaze us with these beaches with dark sand, picturesque rocks and amazing blue sea and sky. The rocky islet is very well placed. It's funny how the lighthouse looks so small, I guess it is the islet that is much bigger than what it looks.

Except the fact that it most likely was built long before the possibility of airlifting construction materials, hehehe...
