A scenic one hour drive from Christchurch, Akaroa is a quaint little fishing town situated on the southern side of Bank Peninsula and is a must see for anyone looking for a few days rest and relaxation.

The town has a distinct French flavour to it. Many street names are of French origin because of its history. French Whalers purchased the land off the Maoris in the 1838 because the harbours were a safe sanctuary from the ferocious Pacific Ocean.

Akaroa is quiet, relaxed and perfect place for anyone wishing to rest up for a while.

For a little more adventure, try the Akaroa Harbour Cruises which take you to see a Seal colony along with the opportunity to swim with Hectors dolphins. French Farm Winery on the western side of the harbour is also worth a visit.

A beautiful landscape, very colorful and vibrant. The picture itself is nicely composed, and has good proportions between the land/sea/sky, with a lot of details spread through them. Sharpened nicely.

Ooh la la! I have been to Akaroa, & enjoyed it immensely. I remember an old whaling pot there, & walnut trees. Wonderful colour, sharpness & contrast. Tfs!

Beautiful and so typically NZ landscape. Water, hilley terrain, plenty of green, though there's also ochre colors. And lots of boats. So relaxing. Interesting note too.

Hi Janice!The scene and the colors are incredible. The composition of your photo is good with a good placement of the major elements Very nice image to look at. I really like all of the different details found in this image from the boats, to the buildings,hills to the sky, and the diffuse reflections. Buildings and boats on a slight diagonal leading into the image inviting exploration

Lovely scene from the Banks Peninsula with excellent ripples, cloud formations and natural colours with the boats positioned perfectly. I like the light hitting the top left hills.
