Photographer’s Note
Hi all. I know this is quite common in northern Europe and the on northern American continent but it’s rare for us here.
The coldest weather for a couple of years has left us with this view. This cold snap closed most of the roads into and around the Central Plateau of NZ’s North Island as well as most of the inland roads in NZ’s South Island. A day or two after this shot was taken all that snow was gone, probably till next year or the year after.
This was taken just beyond the town of Rangiwahia and is on the road that takes you to the Ruahine Forest Park.
Converted from Raw.
Enjoy, Paul.

This image look black and white, except for the tree on the left. The view is very pretty though and the light filtering through the clouds gives this image a more interesting character. The scene does look like Canada a bit during winter. Thanks Paul.

Hi Paul. Lovely scene. when I went to NZ for the firs time, it also snowed. caught us by surprise. If it wasn't for the gumtree in the foreground, it could well be Europe, disregarding the date. Lovely touch those subtle rays of the sun. Nice definition throughout. Regards. Klaudio.

Bonjour, cher Paul,
La neige possède ce secret de rendre au coeur en un souffle la joie naïve que les années lui ont impitoyablement arrachée.
J'aime beaucoup la présence de rais crevant les nuages venant éclairer l'horizon.

Hi Paul,
A very refreshing image for that we live in the north hemisphere, in Spain it is hot.
It is nice to see these winter scenes in July, in this capture you offer us this environment with a perfect image.
I like the contrast between the snow and the clouds, and to see the beams of the Sun that try to cross them.
A beautiful work, my friend.

Hello Paul,
I love this well composed winter shot showing New Zealand blanketed with snow. I have good friends in Rotorua, who I must send this link to. Your composition and colors, the sunburst effect below the heavy clouds... all collaborate to make this a memorable scene.
I generally like shots posted in season — golden leaves in the Fall, snow in the winter — and most certainly you have given us this unusual and correct inversion. Of course, we all pay lip service to the Southern Hemisphere being in the winter, while we are swimming in the ocean, but few of us really think about it seriously. I live in Virginia 12,800 km (8,000 miles) diametrically opposite a point in the Indian Ocean, 800 miles southwest of Perth, Australia.
Warm regards,
Bulent

SNOW??? You captured this unique event very effectively. The warm detail of the eucalytus tree against the almost B&W effect of the snow and barren poplar (?) trees really makes a clear contrast while the glowing sun rays add drama.

Very well composed image with the tree perfectly in focus on the left, providing both a natural frame to the view and adding depth. The weak rays from the sun are an important feature of the image too.
It sounds like the snow in England. It closes down the whole country and then disappears overnight.

Another wonderful composition Paul with the tree in the fg introducing us to the scene.
The fences lead us through the shot, and the sun's rays pointing down lead our eyes back into the picture.

Indeed this does not look very exotic for our upover eyes but for sure it allows you to diversify your photography portfolio ! Hi Paul,
It's a wonderful winter scene, that comes as a double "expectable" surprises: a snowed view shot in July of a landscape that looks very European and seeing an eucalyptus in the middle of so much snow. I like how you made the compo using the loose alignment of trees and the fence, putting the little house on the centre, under those interesting sun rays coming from behind the clouds.

Strange feeling I got seing this winter, snowy scene in NZ but wherever in NZ, in France or in Switzerland, these scens are always beautiful and very enjoyable, you had a bonus which is that light piercing thru the clouds like a shower of light.
The light of that day and your work with the exposure created a very nice atmosphere.
