Photographer’s Note
Hi all.
Couldn’t resist sharing this one with all. Of course the fourth insulator is a bird. It’s a Magpie, a bird imported from Australia I think. Anyway they reek havoc on the native bird population, basically bullying them out of there territory. Shame because the Magpie is full of character and quite intelligent. Certainly smart enough to work out the range of a hunters rifle!
Taken within minutes of my “Evening walk” photo.
Converted from RAW.
Enjoy, Paul.

I guess the bird could also work as an insulator as well. Of course just for a very short time ;-) Interesting image and note. I am not knowledgeable about birds but I do like to see them in images. This picture is minimalist yet it catches my attention because of its curiousity. Nice work Paul :-)

Hello Paul,
Yeah, sorry about the magpies and possums causing problems over in NZ, it is really unfair. Both of those species are well loved here but I am sure a scar on the environment across the Tasman. Some Australian birds have been naturally swept over to New Zealand in storms, such as the Kookaburra and some types of rosella. I like the simple composition here; it is good to see a defined tonal range of fiery colour. The patterning of the clouds makes a good backdrop to the cheeky subject. It is a creative photo, well done!

Olá Paul, funny and original capture showing us how good is the native bird in camouflage :) I like the intense light and painting in the sky. The simple graphism makes a nice minimalist composition.

nice simple composition of the content and pleasant of the colours. The mast and the wires is great against that light in the sky.

Hi Paul,
The pole, with its wires and bird make a fine focal point for your golden clouds.
When down your way, I saw a flock of magpies tearing one of their number to pieces as he struggled. I've never felt very positive about them since then.

Very nice catch of the bird sitting on top of the phone pole, I noticed it even before reading the note which is a testimony of the clarity of the image. And a very nice golden color.
All the best,

Hello Paul,
The yellow sky together with clouds give a nice composition.
But these bird is indeed exactly a isolator, nice presentation with the black pole as contrast.
Is this a bird of prey?
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

- Wonderful golden color and amazing light for this original composition, Paul, poetic but funny atmosphere with the bird like fourth insulator! In this moment, I see a magpie by the window, it bathes in a water puddle pool! Anyway bravo, this is successful!
Have a good weekend.

Bonsoir

Indeed a very simple composition but the colours make it very effective. There are lovely cloud patterns as the perfect backdrop for your humorous silhouette. Well spotted.

Bonjour Paul,
l'originalité de la photo, l'oiseau qui remplace l'isolateur.
Mais le beauté de la photo est surtout dans les couleurs fortes et ce ciel très contrasté.
Un peu de surexposition en bas à gauche.
Regards.

Hello Paul,
This is a well done observation!
And I agree with you that magpies are smart, I have a family around my house that I feed during winter and thus have the opportunity to obeserve their behaviour closely...
A simple composition with a beautiful sky as background!

Hi Paul,
Beautiful & creative composition. Well seen, captured and presented. these Magpies can be a problem when nesting, they will swoop on anything that moves to protect their young & able to cause some injury as I'm sure you know.
Thanks

Paul, you saw the potential of the moment very well and I'm glad that the bird is samrt enough to differentiate between a hunters rifle and camera shooting.

Hi Paul,
Most people would try to avoid wires in the photo because they are considered a distraction. But you have made an exceptionally good photo out of it set against the sunset colours. The smart magpie at the very spot makes it even better.
