Photographer’s Note
This view through window of Fiordland Park forest was taken on our way to Key Summit. This is part of famous Routeburn Track which if you would like to walk from very start to the end, takes about 3 days. However, our task wasn’t so ambitious but still quite challenging. Trip to the summit and back takes about 3 hours but it worth every minute. I’ve heard an opinion, if you do not have enough time to see all beauty of Fiordland National Park, and have to choose only one thing to do, this thing definitely should be visit to Key Summit. A few words about how to get there. The track starts on remarkable point called Divide. It is lowest pass trough Southern Alps. When you are driving to Milford Sound you just can’t fail to spot that place. You’ll find very convenient car park there, fresh water supply, toilet and shelter. If you don’t have a car, you might easily get there by bus and came back the same way. The track starts right there and leads through amazing forest to the summit. From the 919 m summit you can see the Hollyford, Greenstone and Eglinton valleys, mountains and lakes. I am going to share with you more photos from that place in a nearest future and hope you will enjoy indescribable beauty of that place as much as I did. The mount you see on that photo is Mt Lyttle (on a foreground), 1896 m hight and Mt Gunn (on a background, with snow on top of it) 2050 m.

Hallo Dmitri!
A very inventive and beautiful picture! This "look-through" works very well and it emphasizes the contrast between the plants and the snow up in the mountains. You managed the difficult here very skillfully!
Greetings from Germany!

Hello Dmitri,
eye-catching composition and good colours, but the best (for me) is the wonderful contrast visible on the rocks but also in the green of under shadow or in the light. The long branch adds depth and interest.

Lovely shot, Dimitri.
The composition is great, with that lichen (or whatever it is) covered branch framing the mountains very well. Excellent clarity and beautiful green tones in this one. I look forward to seeing some more shots of this area.

Andrew

Hi Dmitri,
My day tour of this region was all too brief; I could have spent several months here! I would love to see the view from those peaks, will have to contemplate a few climbs next time I am over in NZ (Mt. Taranaki is one I am hoping to also). This really is the way the viewer sees the peaks in Fiordland - through broken patches of mossy rainforest. I believe your natural framing is perfect. Perhaps the darker parts of the branches have been brightened to the point where they become a little grainy, but that might be a result of layering techniques. I am no expert on RAW and layering so I cannot criticize too much. It is a magnificent sight and you have certainly organized this composition very well.
