Photographer’s Note

This was taken during a kite festival held here in Christchurch at New Brighton beach. This would be the color version of the octopus in my previous b&w posting taken from a different angle.

Temporarily, I will not be posting here in TE as I will be doing my main posting in TL. Yesterday, the last B&W posting I've done last Friday titled 'River Trees' was deleted by TE administrators (after 15 positive critiques were given)... sorry for those I missed out replying because all the critiques were deleted too. The reason given to me was "Excessive post-processing" which was a bit of a surprise considering some of the pp I've seen here TE. With my current interest in B&W conversions, maybe TL is the appropriate place for me to post my compositions. However, I'll be back from time to time to reply to your critiques and check the gallery. ah, biktima ka rin pala ng deletion blues dito! katulad mo, ako rin ay naranasan ng ganito. kahapon lamang ang Valentine's foto ko ay tinanggal din..at 'twas not the first..:-(

Hi Renier, I like the wind-blown plants as foreground material and the coloured kites have very strong colours and shapes. It seems and ideal place for this event. TFS. Murray.

Hello Renier! This is lovely and sometimes I do it myself but I do not have a teddy bear yet :) I like how you approached this photo with some grass in the foreground and the fluttering octopus above suiting the mood of the sky with these amazing clouds. Sometimes you really wonder why they delete this photo but leave others that might as well be deleted. All the effort, and now gone ... sorry to hear. Have a wonderful weekend, Barbara.

The effect is so nice is so impressive, the wonderful sky helps very much to see the flying objects very very good, the contrast is excellent.

Hello Renier,

Shame about the deleted pic, I commented on it so at least you heard my positive opinions. I like this updated octopus’s garden photo, showing more of the kites further down the beach and towards the pier in the distance (which I think was the one in your previous post). It is a very pleasant scene. I am surprised to see no kiwi shaped kites, but after all they are not particularly aerodynamic ;).

Hi Renier,

Too bad I didn't get to see the picture to judge for myself. I will have to check it out in TL. Kites are an excellent hobby for many people as they are si much fun to fly around during windy days. The colour contrasts created by the kites here is very good. The give the wonderful blue sky a nice addition. Good light and sharpness. Thanks Renier.

What adds interest value is the fact we don't see a single kiter as they are hidden behind the vegetation in the foreground...

Hi Renier,
that was for sure a wonderful occasion. I had one festival several years before as I was less interested in photography and did not many and not good shots. Wonderful composition in colours and from the zoo of earth with the octopus and the bear. The grass inclusion is superb.
Not all heavy PP captures from others are detected by the mods and I tell only the posters if I think that this is wrong here. Yours was a bit heavy I think, but for sure less than others.

I was about to give you some comments on your B&W photo, but when I tried it was gone.
I don't see the excessive PP.
I also suggest you leave the WS option active. Most of your photos are not actived.

The multi colored extraordinarly beautiful kites find a stunning and most perfect background blue sky with its wispy clouds making a stunning contrast to all the lovely colors of the inntricately designed kites. The tall green sea grass makes a most effective anchor to this lovely composition. Sorry to hear your leaving TE the term excessive PP can be miss leading because I have been rejected for the use of frames without straight edges and other mundane offenses that one would not associate as excessive PP. It will be a great loss and I feel that they should better explain the rules and use a category that does not fit excessive PP which one would think is over saturation etc.

Hi Renier. Excellent photo. I love the colours of this shot. That sky makes a great backdrop and the grasses a great foreground. I had a look at your BW pic on TL and the only reason I can think of for their actions is that perhaps it does look like an IR shot. Good luck on TL.

Back to this picture. Very nice one with those attractive and colourful kites against the partly cloudy sky. Good inclusion of the grass too.

Two points for the idea of putting the grass together with the kite, with its fringes resembling the grass. But technically, there is a large margin of improvement: WB is on the warm side, there is some noise, and saturation could be stronger, given the playful content.
