Auckland Anniversary Day is celebrated on the Monday closest to 27th Jan, the day William Hobson (the first governor of NZ) landed in the Bay of Islands.
Appropriately many Aucklanders spend the day out of the city and on the water, just like Hobson did back in 1840. |
